Source: www.qrl.com.auMackay five-eighth Daniel Abraham has turned in a vintage display of attacking rugby league to steer the Cutters to a hard-fought 26-24 Queensland Cup victory over Wynnum Manly.
Abraham was pure class with the ball in hand, orchestrating two wonderful second-half tries on a rain-sodden BMD Kougari Oval.
The former Newcastle Knight cracked the game wide open in the second half when he delivered a miracle one-handed pass on to the chest of Ben Farrer, who sprinted 50 metres to score.
The 42nd minute try put the Cutters in front 16-10.
Wynnum fought its way back into the contest with a converted try to Gerald Beale and a Ben Green penalty goal.
Green's penalty kick put the Seagulls in front 18-16.
But the Seagulls couldn't keep Abraham out of the game and the Cutters were soon back in front.
In the 61st minute and with the game in the balance, Abraham put a lovely short ball on to the chest of Darren Griffiths who sliced through to score.
The Cutters never looked like getting beaten from that point on. The visitors surged further in front when Quinton Fielder carried three defenders over the line to score.
Abraham's conversion carried the Cutters to a 26-18 lead.
Wynnum Manly's persistent fullback Simon Phillips snuck over for a consolation try in the final minute but it was all too late for the Seagulls.
In the final wash up, the Seagulls simply didn't post enough points when they had a mountain of possession early in the second half.
Wynnum received a string of penalties which provided a perfect attacking platform.
But the Cutters repelled the majority of the attacking raids in a gusty performance.
The Cutters were also reduced to 12 men midway through the second half after inspirational lock Jardine Bobongie was sin-binned for repeated ruck infringements.
Mackay coach Shane Muspratt was thrilled to walk away with the victory, their fourth of the season.
"That would be our best win," Muspratt declared.
"We only had 25 sets for the whole game."
MACKAY CUTTERS 26 (Anthony Perkins, Ben Farrer, Jardine Bobongie, Darren Griffiths, Quinton Fielder tries; Daniel Abraham 3 goals) def WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS 24 (Simon Phillips, Jason Moon, Gerard Beale, Adam Brideson tries; Ben Green 3, Matt Seamark goals) at BMD Kougari Oval.

Source: www.newcastleknights.com.auLocal favourite, Daniel Abraham will join the Newcastle 100 Club this Friday when the Knights take on the Tigers at Telstra Stadium.
The Premiership winning utility will chalk up the milestone in his 7th year of first grade, complementing a career that almost ended two years ago when he suffered a horrific leg break.
Despite concerns he would never play again, Abraham made a successful comeback in 2006 and has been a consistent performer this season.
"It's been an honour to play for the club," Abraham said.
"Playing in front of 20,000 people with a great bunch of blokes is something you never forget.
"I've been at the club since I was 15, played Harold Matthews, SG Ball and Jersey Flegg so it's a big part of my life."
A Macquarie United junior, the 27 year-old made his top grade debut against Penrith in May 2000. He was a member of the 2001 Premiership winning team the following year and represented Country in 2003 and 2004.
"I've known Daniel since he first came to the club and at 15 years of age, we knew he had the skills to make a first grade footballer," Knights SEO, Steve Burraston said.
"Abes was part of a squad of talented local juniors who came through the ranks in 2000 and he's a local crowd favourite.
"While he appears laid back and casual, his determination can never be questioned. To come back from the injury he suffered in 2005 and play NRL football again is one of the toughest acts I've seen.
Abraham will lead the Knights onto Telstra Stadium tomorrow night.
