Source: www.melbournestorm.com.auMelbourne Storm has signed experienced front-rower Jack Afamasaga to its NRL squad for the remainder of the 2011 season.
Afamasaga joins Storm most recently from Racing Club Lescure Arthes XIII in the French Rugby League competition, having played in the grand final in June.
Afamasaga's signing will add depth to Storm's front-rowers group.
Storm GM Football Operations, Frank Ponissi, said the signing of Afamasaga was unexpected, but a very welcome addition to Storm's playing roster.
"Jack literally knocked on our door looking for an opportunity after moving to Geelong to live with his partner's family," said Ponissi.
"We weren't really in the market for any additional players, but the enquiry came at an opportune time just prior to the 30 June deadline and we are very pleased to have him on board for the remainder of the 2011 season."
The former Samoan International commenced his rugby league career as a junior at Parramatta, making his NRL debut in 2004 and going on to win the Club's Rookie of the Year. He also enjoyed two successful years at Manly, where he ironically played in the 2007 grand final against Melbourne Storm, before joining Cronulla in 2008 for two seasons. Before moving overseas, Afamasaga represented Wynnum-Manly in the QLD Cup (season 2010).
Afamasaga commenced training last week and is eligible to play for Storm's feeder team in the NSW Cup competition commencing Saturday 16 July.

Cronulla Coach Ricky Stuart has been forced to make two changes to his side for Monday's clash against Newcastle at Toyota Stadium following publicised injuries to Ben Ross and Brett Kearney.
David Simmons comes into the fullback position for Kearney with Luke Douglas winning promotion into the starting side for Ross with Jack Afamasaga added to the bench. Stuart has also added Mitch Brown and Jacob Selmes to an extended bench.
Kearney is out with a foot injury until round 13 and Ross is out indefinitely due to a neck injury. Reni Maitua is due back next week after sustaining an ankle injury during the trials.
