Anasta to lead Roosters in Fitzgibbon's absence

Braith Anasta will lead the Sydney Roosters against Parramatta on Friday night following Craig Fitzgibbon's surprise selection in the New South Wales State of Origin side today.

The Roosters will be without Fitzgibbon, Willie Mason and Anthony Tupou due to their selections in the NSW side and Nate Myles will be selected in the Queensland side, which will be named today at 2:00pm.

Anasta was omitted from the Blues side after poor performances in 2006-07 with the selectors preferring to use Cronulla lock Greg Bird in the pivot position.

The Roosters are one of the favourites for the competition this season and will face up to an Eels line up missing only Jarryd Hayne on their home soil. Parramatta have struggled for form this season, but victories in their last two matches should give them confidence.

Anasta named in Roosters side for Storm clash

Braith Anasta has been named at five-eighth for Saturday's important clash against premiership favourites Melbourne Storm at the SFS.

Both sides are coming shock losses last week with the Roosters going down 20-14 against Brisbane on home soil and the Storm lost a rare home game at Olympic Park with a drop goal from Brett Kimmorley the difference as the Sharks ran out 17-16 victors.

Anasta's selection is a big boost for the Roosters and there was doubt over his availability after sustaining a broken nose last week following a tackle from Karmichael Hunt, which the Broncos fullback is facing one week on the sidelines after being charged by the NRL judiciary.

Fittler has named an all representative forward pack with the exception of hooker Riley Brown. Wille Mason has been recalled to the starting side at the expense of David Shillington who drops back to the bench. Mason will start in the second row with Nate Myles moving to prop.

Saturday's clash at the SFS shapes up as a very early preview for the Finals with both sides set to feature when the business end of the season approaches.
