Source: www.sharks.com.auThe Sharks confirm that they have secured the services of Trent Barrett on a two-year deal.
Currently playing for Wigan in the English Super League, Barrett will join the Sharks for the 2009 season.
Sharks coach Ricky Stuart, who spoke of Barrett and what his experience could potentially bring to the club at a recent members forum, was pleased that the former St George-Illawarra product would be in Sharks colours for the next two seasons.
"I'm extremely excited about having Trent join the club," Stuart said. "I've got no doubt he will be very good for the Sharks both on and off the field."
Likewise, CEO Tony Zappia was of the belief that Barrett, who has played 11 Test matches for Australia and seven times for NSW in the State of Origin series, would be a definite asset to the Sharks over the next two years.
"I've got no doubt Trent can add a new attacking dimension to the team and he is a great addition to the club," Zappia said.
After 11 seasons at the Illawarra Steelers and St George Illawarra Dragons Barrett was granted a release by the Dragons to join Wigan in 2007, where he has since played more than 50 games for the Warriors over the last two seasons.
In an outstanding debut season in the UK Barrett earned a number of accolades, including the Rugby League Writers Association Player of the Year award in 2007. Previous to joining Wigan, Barrett played 186 NRL games for the Dragons and Steelers.
Barrett became available for a return to the NRL after negotiating an early release from his three-year contract at Wigan.

Source: www.wiganwarriors.comWigan Warriors Head Coach Brian Noble has today confirmed that Aussie stand off Trent Barrett will Captain the side in the absence of Sean O'Loughlin.
Lockers will be sidelined for upto 12 weeks with a broken shoulder blade which he picked up late on in the win over Warrington last Friday. Trent will skipper the side for the first time this Sunday at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, 3.30pm kick off.
Speaking about Barrett, Brian Noble said:
"Trent will lead us, he is one of the leaders on the field and will take the team forward. There were a few candidates, we have some leaders amongst us but he was the obvious choice and he stands out as a leader. His narration skills, his vocals are very good and he is determined to finish the season very well."
