Burrow looks to rub it in ahead of semi final
Thu July 17, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill

Leeds Rhinos and England star Rob Burrow is happy making other people relaxed ahead of the biggest game of the season when the Rhinos take on St Helens in the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi final on Saturday 26th July with his new job as a sports masseur.

Burrow recently opened a new sports injury and rehabilitation centre in Pontefract with his wife Lindsey called Burrow Physiotherapy.

The couple's clinic is based in Pontefract and whilst chartered physio Lindsey looks after diagnosing and treating muscle and ligament tears, scrum half Rob is fully trained in sports massage. Rob has qualified knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology, Swedish massage, Advanced Massage and Sports Massage.

Commenting on the new business Burrow said, "It is great that my wife and I have been able to find something that we can both combine our skills for. We launched our new website the other week, www.burrowphysiotheraphy,co.uk, and there has already been a lot of interest. It takes my mind off the pressures of rugby as well plus I have been fortunate at Leeds to have worked with some great medical staff so hopefully I can pass on some of that good advice."

Leeds sign McGuire and Burrow to five year deals
Thu June 19, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill
Source: www.leedsrugby.com

World Champions Leeds Rhinos have been handed a massive boost ahead of their clash with rivals St Helens this Friday at Headingley Carnegie with the announcement that Great Britain stars Rob Burrow and Danny McGuire have both signed new contracts to keep them at the club until the end of the 2013 season.

The new five year deals will take both players through until they are 30 at the only club they have ever played for. Both 25-year-olds have scored over 100 tries for the club already in their career, a feat that only 23 players have achieved in the 113 year history of the club.

Burrow was named Player of the Series last year when Great Britain defeated New Zealand and he and McGuire are expected to be key players for England in the World Cup in Australia later this year. Both players were due to be out of contract at the end of 2009.

Commenting on the new deals Head Coach Brian McClennan said, "This is fantastic news for the Rhinos and our future. Rob and Danny are world class players and for them to commit their career to the club speaks volumes for them as individuals but also about Leeds as a club. The club have worked hard to create an environment that people do not want to leave and that is a great message to give our young people.

"Both players have shown loyalty and commitment to the club and to spend your entire career at one club is something that should be admired in the modern era," added McClennan.

Commenting on his new deal Burrow said, "I know that this club is going to be successful for a number of years I want to be part of that. This is the best club in the world and I don't want to be anywhere else. It is great playing and training alongside lads I grew up with and that was certainly a factor when deciding on the new deal. I would like to think I have a few more years in me at the end of this contract but I have certainly committed the prime years of my career to the Rhinos. I am just looking forward to carrying on how we have started off this season and enjoying being part of this squad."

Burrow is also planning for life after rugby with the establishment of a new business with his wife Lindsey, who is a chartered physiotherapist, called Burrow Physiotherapy. The couple launched a new website recently at www.burrowphysiotherapy.co.uk and the Leeds scrum half will be very much hands on in the new business. He added, "I have got a qualification in sports massage and I will be doing a couple of hours a week. My wife is a qualified physiotherapist and it is great that we can do something that uses both our abilities."

Leeds lad McGuire made his debut a year after Burrow in 2002 but his trying scoring prowess since has seen him shoot up the club's record books. He is currently 13th in the all time list but just seven tries off levelling his childhood hero Garry Schofield and breaking into the club's top ten try scorers. McGuire added, "I am really pleased to have got my future sorted out. I had another year to go on my current deal so signing a new deal now wasn't necessary but when I sat down with my girlfriend and family, I could only ever see myself playing for Leeds so I was more than happy to sign. I think this group of players is going to be successful in the years ahead and I want to be part of that.

"I am 25 now and as a player your best years are probably between 25 and 30 and I am happy to be playing those years of my career here at the Rhinos. I have been here since I was 13, and importantly I am enjoying myself as part of this team.

"Successful teams need to have a nucleus of players who have been together for a long period and we certainly have that at Leeds. There is a group of us who have been here since we were kids and that core has been added to over the years by world class players joining the club and I am happy to play my whole career at Leeds," added McGuire.
