Chalk moves into the backline
Tue April 1, 2008
Source: www.raiders.com.au

Super utility Marshall Chalk will play in the centres this weekend for the Green Machine, with the news earlier in the week that Phil Graham will miss the remainder of the 2008 season with a knee injury.

Chalk has been shifted from the back row to the backline for all three of the Raiders opening three matches, due to injuries to Graham and fullback William Zillman.

The movement of Chalk to the backs sees Joe Picker elevated to the starting line-up for the Raiders clash against the Titans at skilled park, with David Milne again named as 18th man for the Green Machine.

In an encouraging sign for the Raiders Tom-Learoyd-Lahrs has been named in jumper number 19 for the Raiders and Coach Neil Henry will make a final decision on his team later in the week.

Henry said Marshall Chalk had been named in the centres this week to help defensively out wide, and would fill the job admirably after Phil Graham's knee injury left him out for the remainder of the season.

"Chalky's been our Mr Fixit man this season considering the injuries we've had so far," Henry said. "We've named him in the centres and he had a really strong game defensively last weekend and that's a real strength in his game being that utility player."

Henry said back rower Nigel Plum would return to the starting line-up this weekend, while a decision on the starting side would be made later in the week, after some solid performances against the Dragons last week from a few players.

"Nigel Plum is over his back injury but he'll need to do some contact tomorrow and we expect him to play," he said. "Michael Weyman was very good. He's been named on the bench this week after starting last week, and we might have a look at that as well, he might start again, and Joe Picker will start again after a solid game against the Dragons."

Chalk remains a Raider
Tue July 4, 2006
Source: www.raiders.com.au

Marshall Chalk will remain in the lime green until at least the end of 2008, after signing a new two year deal with the Canberra Raiders today.

Chalk has been a sensation for the Raiders in 2006, and his impressive move from the backline to the back row has allowed him to secure his future with the club until at least the end of the 2008 season.

After an iconic four try effort in his second NRL match in 2004 Chalk has struggled to break into first grade playing fullback, due to the form of Raiders skipper Clinton Schifcofske, but his move to the back row has him one of the first players picked each week in the current Raiders line-up.

Chalk said he is happy to be remaining in Canberra for the next two years, but at the same time is still concentrating on the Raiders making it through to the finals this year.

"It's great to have my future sorted out and I can just concentrate on playing good footy," Chalk said. "We still have a job to do this year and I'm really enjoying playing first grade at the moment."

Chalk said staying with the Raiders is something that he has wanted all along, and his decision was based around support from those close to him.

"I never really wanted to leave Canberra so I'm glad that I have been offered the chance to stay," he said. "I spoke with my family and friends and they agreed it was the right thing for my football career."

Raider's general manager Don Furner said Chalk's form has warranted the new deal, and he looked forward to seeing Chalk continue his rapid development in the Raiders back row.

"Marshall's form has done the talking this year and we had no choice but to re-sign him," Furner said. "He has been one of the standouts in the team since shifting to the back row and we look forward to him getting even better."
