Clinton ready for the Dragons
Fri March 16, 2012
Source: http://www.hullkr.co.uk

Joel Clinton admits that last Saturday's defeat at the hands of the Bradford Bulls was hard to take and that he and his team-mates will be looking to banish the memory of it when they travel to Catalans this weekend.

The encounter with the Bulls was one that got away and the big Aussie says that lessons have been learned from it.

"We've done our homework this week, had a good look at the video and have had a rap across the knuckles, which we deserved," he said. "But we've got a big game this weekend and are trying to move on from last Saturday.

"You have to look back on the game you've just played as you need to do your homework from it. It wasn't a proud moment in my career, and I'm sure all of the other boys would say the same as it was a bitter pill to swallow.

"But we've got to focus on the Catalans game now and we know it'll be another tough one for us. They're playing really good footy at the moment and they're another side with a big pack, just as Bradford's was, so it's going to be another challenge in the middle for us. I'm looking forward to it though, as it's always good to play in a physical game."

On a personal note, Clinton has enjoyed a solid start to the season which is something he's happy with given that 2011 was largely a year to forget for him.

"Being positive has a lot to do with it and Craig (Sandercock) has been a really big help to me," he continued. "He's helped me throughout the pre-season and has picked me up and fed me full of positive influence.

"It was a daunting time in my career last year - it was probably the toughest I've had in all my time as a professional first grade footballer.

"This year has been good so far though and I'm really happy and enjoying it. It has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride so far and we have had injuries but Craig has made a really valid point in that we can't be using it as an excuse.

"I believe in that as well. If you're good enough to be picked in that 17 man squad then you should be playing first grade and we have to look towards that and try and get on with it week by week."

The Robins have announced their 19 man squad for this weekend's trip to Catalans.

The squad is:

Shannon McDonnell
Craig Hall
Jordan Cox
Joel Clinton
Lincoln Withers
Keal Carlile
Liam Salter
Scott Wheeldon
Scott Taylor
Rhys Lovegrove
Josh Hodgson
Mickey Paea
Graeme Horne
Scott Murrell
Michael Dobson
Jason Netherton
Con Mika
Kris Welham
Sam Latus

Hull KR secure Joel Clinton signing

Hull Kingston Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of former Brisbane Broncos prop Joel Clinton.

The 28-year old has joined on a deal that will see him at Craven Park until the end of the 2012 campaign after six seasons in the NRL with both the Broncos and Penrith Panthers.

Clinton has one Australian cap to his name after featuring in the 2004 ANZAC Test and has also appeared in three State of Origin matches for New South Wales.

In his 137 game spell with the Panthers Clinton was part of the side that upset favourites Sydney Roosters in the 2003 NRL Grand Final to claim a famous 18-6 triumph.

Clinton has made 182 NRL appearances in all but is now looking forward to the new challenge that Super League will bring.

"I can't wait to get over there and get started," said Clinton.

"I know a few players that have gone from the NRL to Super League and they've only had positive things to say about the experience."

"The club has a good history of winning things and I'm coming to Hull KR wanting to get to the top. Justin Morgan has built strong foundations over the past few years and the passion to want to achieve was a driving force behind my decision to sign."

Clinton added: "I feel like I've still got some of my best years ahead of me. I'm looking forward to bonding with the team then earning my stripes and letting my rugby do the talking."

Rovers Head Coach Justin Morgan was happy to secure Clinton's signature. "Joel is a player that we have admired for a while and we are delighted that he has joined us.

"He's a very talented player. You don't play State of Origin or earn a cap for Australia without having that something special.

"He will give us even greater strength in our pack and his signing will only add to the fierce competition for places that we have in the forwards.

"We've got some young prop forwards in the squad and Joel's experience won't only help the team on the field, but what he will be able to pass onto the younger players in training will be invaluable to them."

Clinton will be interviewed on the pitch at half-time in this Sunday's game against Huddersfield Giants for which tickets are still available.

Make sure you are there to welcome the Robins new signing by buying your ticket at Craven Park on Sunday, with the game against the Giants the first ticket required if supporters wish to qualify for priority purchase for the Hull derby on Friday 2nd April.

Season passes are also still on sale at the Club's Official Retail Store on 269 Holderness Road or at Craven Park, online at www.hullkrsuperstore.co.uk or by calling 0844 2490 105.
