Quins capture Rovers duo
Sat September 10, 2011
Source: www.league.quins.co.uk

Harlequins RL have recruited wing Liam Colbon and back rower Matt Cook from Hull Kingston Rovers for next season's campaign.

Colbon, 26, who has signed a two year deal, began his career with his home town club Wigan before switching to Rovers in 2009.

Quins head coach Rob Powell said: "Liam is exactly the type of winger that we like at this club. He makes a lot of metres in yardage and is a strong ball carrier. He's at a good age and has served a good apprenticeship at Wigan and Hull KR."

Colbon commented: "I am really excited to have signed for Harlequins Rugby League for next season. It's a great opportunity for me to show what I can do and I'm really looking forward to joining up with the squad and to start working with them all in the off-season."

Powell has bolstered his pack still further for the 2012 season by signing 24-year-old Cook on a two year deal.

"Matt's a strong ball carrier and runs a decent line on an edge," said Powell. "He's had limited opportunities due to the strength that Rovers have had in those positions but we feel he is someone who can kick on and play a lot of games. He will definitely add something to our squad."

Cook added: "I'm really excited to be coming home to Harlequins Rugby League. It's where I started my career when I was a kid and I was coached by Phil Jones. I'm really looking forward to getting back there and playing in the Super League."

Hull KR sign Cook from Bradford
Wed September 2, 2009
Source: http://www.hullkr.co.uk

Hull Kingston Rovers can confirm that Bradford Bulls second rower Matt Cook will be joining Morgan's men next season as he signs a two-year deal this week.

Matt signed for Bradford Bulls in 2003 from Saracens RFC and rapidly developed through the grades at Bradford under the watchful eye of Brian Noble and Steve McNamara regularly pushing for a first team spot making over 50 appearances.

Impressed with the achievements and progression at Rovers since their return to the top flight Cook is excited with the prospects of joining the top four side and working for Head Coach Justin Morgan.

"I am ready for a new challenge", Cook stated.

He went on to say: "The Robins have come a long way in such a short space of time under the guidance of Justin Morgan. It will be great for my development as a player to be coached by Justin and his team; I enjoyed Bulls & would like to thank the fans & players for all the support they gave me. Joining Rovers is absolutely brilliant, a tremendous opportunity for me. They are a great club with fantastic supporters & I can't wait for next season. I'm really looking forward to getting started."

The powerful 23-year-old will add brute force and mobility to the rovers pack and Morgan is delighted that Cook will join the Red and Whites next season, believing that he will offer the side a versatility that is much needed.

Morgan commented: "Matt is a tremendous young talent and will bring a huge amount of versatility to our side he can play back row, centre & even front row when called upon. He has plenty of mobility for a big man. I'm sure he will enjoy our style of rugby and continue to develop as a player."
