Hull FC delighted at Crocker signing

Hull FC's new Head Coach Richard Agar is delighted with the clubs sensational news that they have signed current Australian Test star and Queensland ace back row forward Michael Crocker.

Agar who was handed the Head Coaches job for the next two and a half years on Tuesday, said: "He's a winner, who goes through the front door and takes people with him.

"Michael is a world class player who will add steel, aggression and leadership to our pack."

The 27-year-old Crocker has been released from the final year of his contract with the Storm and will join Hull FC on a three year contract next season.

Chief executive James Rule is delighted to have captured one of the highest profile players in Australia, and said: "To have signed a current State of Origin and Australian Test player is a hugely significant signing for us.

"It is a major signing and ranks alongside the best in our 143 year history.

"Michael is renowned as a fierce competitor and leader both on and off the field. We believe those qualities will be essential in assisting driving the current squad forward both in terms of training and on field performances.

"His statistics for wins with his current club Melbourne are inspiring and are testament to his burning desire to be a winner

"I know our fans will share our excitement at such a high profile player pulling on the famous irregular hoops."

Rule also revealed that Crocker was a major target for the club when he and Chairperson Kath Hetherington recently went to Australia. He said at the time of his trip that the benefits might not emerge immediately but would be apparent as the year progressed.

He added: "It was during our trip to Australia where we met NRL agents and chief executives that we were made aware that Michael could be available for next season.

"We were asked if we were interested providing he could get a release and naturally we said yes. We are grateful to Melbourne for agreeing to release Michael.

Crocker revealed: "This is an exciting move for me and I am delighted to be joining a top club like Hull and one with so much ambition as well as history.

"The club have tasted success in recent years and they are obviously hungry for more. Hopefully, I can help them towards those goals.

An inspirational figure for the Storm, Queensland and Australia, Crocker is the fourth current Australian and State of Origin ace to have joined the club and follows in the footsteps of the legendary Peter Sterling, Jason Smith and Shaun Berrigan.

Crocker joined the Storm from Sydney Roosters in 2006 and he has proved their lucky charm and has not played in a losing side for them in some 29 games.

Although Melbourne lost to Brisbane Broncos in the 2006 Grand Final, Crocker missed that game with a knee injury but he was back to lead them to glory in 2007 against former Hull star Des Hasler's Manly side.

His impact in that game was enormous because not only did he produce a savage but legal hit on Manly full back Brett Stewart but several minutes later he scored the decisive try.

Crocker signs three-year deal with Hull FC

Melbourne Storm backrower Michael Crocker has today signed a three-year deal with Hull in the English Super League.

The Queensland and Kangaroo forward has been released by the Storm from the final year of his contract and will join Hull in 2009.

"My three years in Melbourne have been the best of my career and I couldn't have dreamed I would have achieved as much as I have since moving here," said Crocker.

"I've won a premiership, regained my place in the Queensland and Kangaroo line-ups, and really enjoyed playing football again.

"I can't thank Craig and the club enough for giving me the chance to play for the Storm and for that I will always be grateful.

"It's going to be sad to leave Melbourne, but I've always harboured ambitions to play in the English Super League and the offer from Hull was too good to pass up. I look forward to assisting the Club achieving the best it can for the remainder of this year."

While disappointed at losing such an integral part of the team, Melbourne CEO Brian Waldron understands why Crocker has decided to make the move.

"Michael has been a terrific player for us since he's been here as his record suggests," said Waldron.

"Not only has he been a tremendous on field contributor, he has been a valuable asset to the Storm off the field as well. He has worked extremely hard to promote the club and rugby league in Victoria and we'll always appreciate the hard work he has put in.

"The offer he received from Hull is going to set him up financially long term so we released him from the final year of his contract. We look forward to an outstanding contribution from him for the remainder of 2008."

Storm coach Craig Bellamy is fully aware of the attributes Crocker has brought to the club in his three years in Melbourne.

"Michael is a real player's player, and by that I mean his teammates stand a little taller when he's playing," said Bellamy.

"He brought a certain hardness to the team when he joined the club from the Roosters in 2006, and that took us to the next level.

"While it may be quite freakish the record he has of never losing in a Storm jersey, it just goes to show the talent he has and the qualities he brings to our footy team.

"We'll be sad to see Michael leave the club, but it now gives an opportunity to one of the young backrowers we have here to stand up and make that spot their own in 2009."

Crocker has never played in a losing Melbourne Storm team, having played in 29 consecutive winning games.
