Source: www.bulldogs.com.auFront rower Aiden Tolman has capped off a big first season in blue and white by being named the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 2011 NRL Player of the Year at the Club's annual Presentation Night held on Wednesday at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf.
Tolman became the first to claim the Dr George Peponis Medal after being judged to have made the most outstanding on field contribution to the Bulldogs over the course of the NRL season by his team mates and coaching staff.
From this year onward, all awards handed out at the Bulldogs Presentation night will bear the names of Club Legends, with Peponis, Terry Lamb (NSW Cup Player of the Year), Hazem El Masri (Toyota Cup Player of the Year), Steve Mortimer (Rookie of the Year), and Les Johns (Club Man of the Year) all being recognised for their contributions to the Club.
22 year old Tolman, who joined the Club in 2011 from the Melbourne Storm, was a standout in each of the 22 games he played this season, starting every game he featured in.
Tolman's reputation for toughness and endurance shone through during a season in which he played 18 games of 50 minutes plus, with two of those ? round one against the Wests Tigers and round seven against South Sydney ? clocking in at 71 and 72 minutes apiece.
His consistency and effort over the course of the season sees him rated alongside the hardest working props in the game ? the likes of Melbourne's Adam Blair, Gold Coast's Luke Bailey and Cronulla's Luke Douglas.
Trent Cutler was crowned the winner of the Terry Lamb Medal for NSW Cup player of the year, completing a season in which he captained the Bulldogs to a third straight title at that level.
2011 was also notable for the versatile backline player, who made his NRL comeback after an absence of 1,471 days, as well as playing his 200th game for the Club.
Junior Kangaroo Dale Finucane has taken out the Hazem El Masri medal as the Bulldogs Toyota Cup player of the year, bringing down the curtain on two and a half seasons in the national youth competition.
Bega product Finucane captained the side with distinction in 2011, playing every game during a year that saw the young Bulldogs reach the Grand Final qualifier despite a crippling injury toll that saw them use 39 players throughout the season.
Prop Sam Kasiano was recognised for a breakout season in the NRL by taking out the Steve Mortimer Medal as the Bulldogs Rookie of the Year.
Selected to make his NRL debut against the Wests Tigers in round one, Kasiano would eventually play all but five games for the year - including a run of 15 straight to finish off the season.
And Bulldogs 2011 Ken Stephen Medal nominee Dene Halatau finished with two awards for the evening, adding the Les Johns Medal for Club Man of the Year to the Peter Warren Medal he claimed for his work for community causes.
The Club Man of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards are decided upon by a voting panel that includes Chief Executive Officer Todd Greenberg, senior players and members of the Bulldogs coaching staff.
The Presentation night also represented a farewell of sorts to departing players, as well as those who have achieved significant milestones during season 2011.
Retiring Bulldogs captain Andrew Ryan was singled out for special praise, with Camp Quality Chief Executive Simon Rountree presenting 'Bobcat' with a Charity Champion award on behalf of his organisation at the gala.
Camp Quality approached the Club in the lead up to the event to ask permission to make the presentation, to thank Ryan for his hard work and commitment to supporting children with cancer and their families.

Source: www.bulldogs.com.auThe Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have qualified for their third straight NSW Cup Grand Final with a commanding 28-10 defeat of the North Sydney Bears in their qualifier at Leichhardt Oval.
On a wet and wild afternoon, the Dogs defied an early deficit and a 12-3 penalty count to run out a comprehensive five tries to two winner, setting up a show down with the Auckland Vulcans in next Sunday's decider at ANZ Stadium.
The Vulcans earlier won their way through to the Grand Final with a 30-26 defeat of the Cronulla Sharks in golden point extra time.
"We really wanted to come here and play well today," Bulldogs coach Justin Holbrook said after full time. "We'd been a bit patchy later in the year and, while I thought our attack was a bit off our defence certainly made up for it."
"They started well, but from then on in I thought we defended sensationally. Obviously, it wasn't great conditions to play in and there was a lot of errors from both sides, but our commitment in defence I thought was brilliant."
The Bulldogs showed plenty of rust early, with dropped balls and penalties a feature of the opening quarter of their first match in a fortnight.
They'd find themselves behind 6-nil after just four minutes, with Brock Molan sliding over close to the posts for Norths off a nice short ball from livewire half Malcolm Webster.
In reply Justin Holbrook's men completed just one of their first four sets, whilst also seeing a 5-nil penalty count levelled against them by the 17th minute of play.
But the minor premiers soon clicked and it wasn't long before they'd reversed the deficit entirely.
They'd open their account with their first real piece of field position, Brad Morrin steaming onto a well timed pass from Josh Reynolds to score under the posts.
Just a minute later Trent Cutler scythed through to mark his 200th game in Bulldogs colours with a try, improving the position for Bryson Goodwin to convert a second time, putting the Dogs out to a 12-6 lead.
The Bulldogs would spend the remainder of the half in Norths territory without adding to their score, it in part because of a refereeing display that saw them end the half on the wrong side of a 7-1 penalty count and with Goodwin (high tackle) and an un-named team mate (contact with the referee) on report.
To make matters worse, they lost Brad Morrin to the sin bin for a high shot in the 33rd minute, while Jonathan Wright and Michel Lett were both denied tries after being bundled into touch in the right hand corner within minutes of each other late in the half.
The loss of Morrin would untilmately have little effect, with the score remaining at 12-6 until after his return early in the second half.
The Bulldogs continued to build pressure and they got their reward on a repeat set, with Michael Lett latching onto a clever grubber from Josh Reynolds to make it 18-6 the Dogs way soon after the resumption.
Then it was the turn of Marty Taupau, who had been damaging in the period since half time, to capitalise, barging his way over for a try under the posts and with half an hour left to play the Bulldogs led 24-6 and a Grand Final berth beckoned.
The last scoring play by the Dogs came late with Wright taking a full length catch to score wide out off another Reynolds kick, while Norths afternoon was rounded off on full time with prop George Burgess cleverly using referee Matt Noyen as a shepherd to cross for a consolation four pointer.
