Source: www.titans.com.auGold Coast prop Luke Douglas will notch his 150th straight NRL match on Saturday after being named for the Round 4 clash against the New Zealand Warriors in Auckland.
In a remarkable feat for a front rower playing arguably the toughest position on the field, Douglas will notch the milestone having never missed a game in more than six seasons since making his NRL debut for the Cronulla Sharks in 2006.
The 25-year-old Yamba junior takes his place in an unchanged 18-man Titans line-up to take on the Warriors. Jetstar Titans Coach John Cartwright elected not to name centre Jamal Idris to give him extra time to recover from a minor hamstring injury.
Cartwright said Douglas' thoroughness and professionalism in his preparation was the secret to his longevity.
"It's remarkable, especially playing in the front row, he plays pretty big minutes as well,'' said Cartwright.
"He's had some injuries in that time but he's very thorough with his preparation. He gives himself every chance and that's why he's played all those games in a row.
"We haven't seen the best of Luke yet. He's been tremendous for us just for the younger blokes to learn from in how to get themselves ready to play.
"He's still finding his way in the side but his first grade performances have been very solid for us.''
Douglas, who joined the Titans in the pre-season, said he was 'blessed' to have not had any major injuries along with way.
"I think the biggest thing is luck. I haven't had many injuries and when I do get the little niggles, I try to stay on top of them which has kept me on the paddock,'' said Douglas.
"A lot of players go through surgeries and that sort of stuff but I haven't had any of those which has been a blessing.
"I always get stuck into physio and icing. I've worked hard to stay on the paddock.''
The Titans have won two of four previous clashes against the Warriors in New Zealand.
Both sides have registered one win from their opening three matches to start the year.

Source: www.titans.com.auGold Coast Titans players Greg Bird and Luke Douglas officially launched the club's second Titans-themed classroom aimed at assisting young students who are at risk of disengaging from school and learning.
The new Titans Learning Centre (TLC) at Coomera Rivers State School has just commenced operation following on from the success of the first TLC which opened at Mudgeeraba Creek State School in 2009.
Since being established, the TLC has grown at a rapid rate to now have 18 schools participating in the program based out of the two Centres at both the southern and northern ends of the Gold Coast.
Bird, who is the Jetstar Titans' NRL One Community Reading Ambassador, and Douglas took time out of their training schedules ahead of Saturday night's opening home game against the Canberra Raiders at Skilled Park to help the primary school students with their reading skills.
"It's good - we started small a few years ago with one school participating and we're up to 18 schools now,'' said Bird of the two Titans Learning Centres, which are run in partnership with Education Queensland.
"It's good that we can come in and talk to the kids and hopefully inspire them to learn, do their best and get the best out life.''
New recruit Luke Douglas said he had been impressed by the TLC in what marked his first experience reading to the students involved in the program.
"It's a great concept they've got going here,'' said Douglas, who joined the club from Cronulla in the off-season.
"I was a bit nervous actually, being my first time reading to the young kids, but it was really enjoyable so hopefully they got something out of it and they start doing a bit more reading and learning.''
The visit - which saw Bird and Douglas delivering the 'My Hero Reads Too' program - was fitting given 2012 is the National Year of Reading.
Coomera Rivers State School Principal Vic Graham said the new TLC would be a welcomed service for young students on the northern end of the Gold Coast.
"It's a wonderful concept - we're delighted to have the Titans Learning Centre based at Coomera Rivers,'' said Mr Graham
"The concept to re-engage kids that are having some difficulties in the school system has been highly successful. The expression on these kids faces when they saw Greg and Luke today was just incredible - they really want to be here.
"It's a very rapidly growing area, the Coomera end of the Coast and in years to come I can see this being an enormously popular and enormously useful service between Education Queensland and the Titans.''
