North Queensland and New Zealand hooker David Faiumu has been accused of an alleged assault in Rockhampton and is expected to be interviewed by the Police soon.
It's been alleged that Faiumu attacked national swimmer Ash Anderson outside a Subway resturant leaving him facing the possibility of permanent damage to his face.
The alleged incident happened on election night, Saturday 24th November and the Cowboys were made aware of what happened on Thursday night.
Mr Anderson claims he was punched once in the face, the blow fracturing his cheekbone and right eye socket before he hit his head and blacked out. He also said he had 9mm plate had been inserted permanently into his right eye socket and was worried he may suffer paralysis on one side of his face.
North Queensland Chief Executive Peter Parr and Football Manager Dean Lance are currently both on annual leave and therefore unable to make any comments or decisions until they return.
However, the Cowboys released a brief statement,
"The North Queensland Cowboys have been notified that one of our players has been involved in an incident that police are investigating.
"Any allegation of player misconduct is something the club treats very seriously.
"We will await the outcome of the police investigation before making any further comment."Faiumu made his debut for the Cowboys in 2004 and has since played 72 first grade games for the club. He has also appeared in 11 Tests for the Kiwis, including the 2005 Tri Nations Final in which New Zealand produced a one-off miracle defeating Australia 24-0 - ending Wayne Bennett's career as Australian coach.
Prior to joining the Cowboys, Faiumu played for the Central Comets in the Queensland Cup, which is a team based in Rockhampton.
The Cowboys trained as per normal yesterday with the media being locked out.

Centre Clinton Toopi and hooker David Faiumu are back in the Kiwi line-up for the second test against Great Britain at KC Stadium in Hull on Saturday (November 3).
They come in for injured winger Tame Tupou (knee) and interchange back rower Epalahame Lauaki (calf) who were both ruled out today.
"Both players have recovered well but they're not right to play this week in what's obviously a critical test for us," said Kiwi coach Gary Kemble.
Tupou and Lauaki are both expected to be fully fit for the third test in Wigan on Saturday week (November 10).
Toopi, whose last test was the one-off clash against Great Britain in St Helens last year, will share the distinction with captain Roy Asotasi as the most seasoned player in a Kiwi side which is short on test experience.
In fact, Toopi and Asotasi total 38 tests between them while the other 15 players have a combined total of 105 tests between them. Great Britain can claim almost 200 tests in total.
Toopi (Leeds) slides into centre on the right side with Bradford's Shontayne Hape moving to the right wing, where he played the second half of the first test scoring his second try of the night late 14-20 defeat.
North Queensland's Faiumu returns as the interchange dummy half after filling that role in the 0-58 loss to Australia on October 14.
With Tupou and Lauaki omitted the other player not included from the original 20-man squad is Melbourne prop Jeff Lima, who's the 18th man.
"In the end we decided we needed an option on the bench at dummy half," said Kemble.
"David's an experienced hooker who'll provide us with something extra when he comes into the game."Meanwhile, Great Britain coach Tony Smith has named a side which also shows some changes.
Warrington hooker Jon Clarke will make his test debut and Kevin Sinfield (Leeds) is at loose forward in a reshuffled pack while Leeds standoff Danny McGuire returns from injury on the interchange bench after missing the first test.
Missing from the winning side in Huddersfield are hookers Terry Newton and James Roby and interchange back rower Jon Wilkin.
Bradford prop Sam Burgess (18) has been named to start on the bench.
