Foster blow for Saints
Thu February 9, 2012
St Helens will be without prolific points-scorer Jamie Foster for Friday's first Stobart Super League fixture at their new Langtree Park stadium, which is heading for a 17,200 sell-out crowd.

The goal-kicking winger, who topped the league's scoring chart in 2011 with 402 points, has been ruled out of the game against Salford City Reds with a thigh injury sustained in last Saturday's 34-24 win over London Broncos.

The absence of Foster, who missed only two of Saints' 34 matches last season, will pave the way for a recall for former Great Britain winger Ade Gardner, who was an unused substitute against the Broncos, with another winger, Tom Makinson, set to take over the goal-kicking.

St Helens will also be without back rower Mark Flanagan, who picked up a chest injury on the eve of his debut at London, but Chris Flannery is available after recovering from illness and coach Royce Simmons is also hopeful Tony Puletua will be fit to return.

Puletua, who missed the opening game with shoulder and elbow injuries, was able to train today but Saints still have a doubt over full-back Paul Wellens while centre Michael Shenton is still a week away from returning from dislocated elbow.

"If it was the Grand Final, all five could probably play but we're not going to rush them back and we're not going to needle players up at this stage of the year," said Simmons, who is aiming to rotate his squad in the early part of the season.

"Wello has an outside chance but we're not going to rush him back. With your Achilles, if you do it again it could be season-ending and he's very important to us.

"Tony got through training today so he's the most likely of the three to play."

Foster signs two year extension with St Helens
Sat January 14, 2012
Goalkicking winger Jamie Foster has signed a new two-year deal with St Helens.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a phenomenal first full season in Super League, piling up 402 points in all matches in 2011 to become the leading scorer.

"I'm really happy to re-sign with my home-town club for a further two seasons," said Foster, who has scored 574 points in 48 games since making his senior debut against Toulouse in the Carnegie Challenge Cup in 2010.

"I've benefited a lot from the first-team experience that I've gained in my first two seasons in Super League, which has involved me in two Grand Finals already.

"There's a lot of competition for places in the first team this season and the squad is raring to get playing in our new ground, Langtree Park."

Saints have high hopes for Foster, whose impressive form in 2011 earned him a place in the England Knights squad.

Coach Royce Simmons said: "Jamie is one of the best goalkickers in the world.

"He already has a great amount of first-team experience for a 21-year-old and this new deal gives him the opportunity to continue his progress and development as a wing threequarter.

"He is more than capable of doing this."
