Source: www.therhinos.co.ukEngage Super League Champions Leeds Rhinos have announced that they have agreed an undisclosed fee with Huddersfield Giants to sign England international Darrell Griffin, 30, on a three year contract.
Griffin, who has won four caps with England, will join the Rhinos with immediate effect and is the Champions second signing for next season following the earlier signing of Crusaders prop Richard Moore.
Griffin was born in Oxford and originally started playing the game at Oxford Cavaliers before joining the professional ranks at London Broncos. He first rose to prominence after a move to Wakefield and has been part of the resurgence of Huddersfield Giants since moving to Galpharm Stadium in 2007.
Commenting on signing for Leeds, he said, "I would like to thank Huddersfield for everything they have done for me and I wish them all the best for the future. When I was told that I could speak to other clubs, I met with a number of Super League clubs but once I became aware of Leeds' interest in me, there was only one club that I wanted to join.
"Growing up playing the game in Oxford, it was always a dream to get to play with the Champions and now I have that opportunity. I know that I will have to work hard to earn my place in the squad. Leeds have four great props who played in the Grand Final plus with youngsters like Luke Ambler and Brad Singleton fighting for their place and Richard Moore coming in with me, that should lead to good competition for places in the team," added Griffin.
Head Coach Brian McDermott said, "Darrell is a great addition to our squad for next season. He is a player who I admire and has shown at Huddersfield that he is a hard running prop who never takes a backward step. I think he will thrive in our environment and training regime and I am looking forward to seeing him play for Leeds.
"I know first hand the challenges that players from outside of the heartland of the game face, they have to show incredible determination just to get to play the professional game and Darrell has not only come through that but gone on to represent his country. I am sure his best years are still ahead of him and I look forward to working with him," added McDermott.

Source: www.giantsrl.comHuddersfield Giants England prop forward Darrell Griffin has penned a new three-year deal that will keep him at the Galpharm until the end of the 2012 season.
The 27-year-old has been a fixture in the Giants pack since joining the club in 2007 and told of his delight in extending his stay.
"I am very pleased we agreed a deal and as a result I look forward to three more good years. I have improved as a player under Nathan Brown and am sure that there is more to come from me and from the team. Obviously Wembley is going to be the highlight of my career so far and I am sure that with the way the club is strengthening and developing that we will have many more big games to look forward to."
Head coach Nathan Brown was pleased to have his 6 foot 5 inch, 114kg prop tied up.
"Darrell is an improving player, he is someone that took a little bit of time to adjust to my coaching style but the past eight to ten weeks have been promising and he is a player that certainly still has some improvement in him. He has made some good contributions both on and off the field in the past few months and he looks after his body really well. Darrell has taken some really good steps in improving his game, which is pleasing as he is a big athletic guy who can definitely contribute to any team."
