Huddersfield release six players including Fulton and Jackson
Thu September 10, 2009
Source: www.giantsrl.com

Huddersfield Giants have confirmed the release of six players from the 2009 full time squad as follows: Liam Fulton, Paul Jackson, Richard Lopag, Joe Walsh, Tom Hemingway and Chris Lawson are released.

Scott Moore set to return to St Helens following the expiry of his loan spell and Michael Korkidas to remain at the Wildcats in 2010 on a season long loan.

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis told www.giantsrl.com some of the reasons behind these decisions:

"Liam was always a short term option for us after the Todd Carney deal fell away and he has been great to have around the team but he has unfulfilled ambitions in the NRL to pursue. I am sure that the taste of the English game has helped his development as a player and a person and I know that he has enjoyed learning from Nathan and will continue to play a big part in the remaining games."

"Jacko has been a tremendous player for our Club but he has an opportunity elsewhere that is the right one for him to accept. It's sad in many ways yet the salary cap rules are designed to share talent around the game and stop stockpiling of quality by any one club and sometimes these situations mean that quality people have to move on. I guess it's highly likely that both these regulars will feature on Sunday against Wigan and I hope that our supporters give them the send off they both deserve and by making these announcements now it does give both lads the opportunity to receive the fans plaudits.

"At a more junior level we now have some genuine competition for places to attract the full time deals for prospective engage Super League players of the future hence the release of the four others. All need to find regular starting berths at first team level and we will do all we can to help that process. We will shortly be making a number of exciting announcements about full time contracts for those that have excelled in reserve and academy football this year which will demonstrate the depth we are starting to build in that crucial youth area."

Thewlis went on to say: "It seems as soon as the September 1st deadline passes that the rumour mill in the game flies totally out of control and there is much speculation around players. I hope that the above satisfies some of the questions that our supporters are asking of us and that they respect the players own situations going forward and am sure that when any player feels comfortable to announce his future club then they will do so. In the meantime everyone at our Club is entirely focused on the game against Wigan and then the play off series. It remains a very exciting time to be a Giants supporter and am sure that we have much to look forward to in the short, medium and long term."

Hemingway signs new Giants deal
Thu September 13, 2007

Huddersfield Giants 20-year-old goalkicking half-back Tom Hemingway has signed a new two-year deal with the Club.

Giants Head Coach Jon Sharp was pleased to secure the services of Hemingway for the next two years:

"Tom has been rewarded for supporting the first grade half backs who have played extremely well and have stayed healthy. Tom has been really patient and worked hard in training and has made a big contribution to the form of this team. When asked to step into the first team he has done extremely well and he will get more opportunities over the next couple of years.

"Talentbuilder, the new fund raising arm of the club focuses on youngsters development and from this, plans are a foot to bring in the best local talents and the likes of Tom and Michael Lawrence are evidence that opportunities are there."

Tom Hemingway said:

"I'm absolutely delighted the club have kept me, I'm learning all the time, and working and training with such great players has been excellent for my development. As soon as it became clear the Giants were happy for me to stay, my mind was made up.

"I know the club have just signed another class half-back in Luke Robinson, but that's not put me off at all. In the next two seasons, I'm absolutely determined to finally establish myself in the first team. It's going to be hard, I know that. But now the next two years are sorted out I can concentrate on rugby without any distractions."

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis commented:

"This is great news for the Club, Tom and his family and all of our young players in the club. It shows what can be achieved with continued hard work under the guidance of our coaching staff."

"Whilst we have just launched our new Talentbuilder Scheme it is great for all to see that another locally produced Kirklees player has retained his first grade squad position for at least the next two years. Talentbuilder aims to highlight the progress of Tom and others such as Michael Lawrence, Richard Lopag, James Martin and Chris Lawson as beacons of achievement for young elite rugby league players."

"The donations that we have received so far with the season ticket sales are very encouraging and will help us identify and develop the next Tom Hemingway's and Eorl Crabtree's of this world and hopefully further strengthen an already healthy UK and locally born academy products presence in our squad."
