Huby to make long-awaited return from injury in Challenge Cup
Fri April 13, 2012
Source: www.castigers.com

Castleford Tigers head coach Ian Millward has named eight returning players in his 19-man squad for Saturday's Carnegie Challenge Cup 4th round tie at Featherstone.

Prop forward Craig Huby will make his long-awaited return to action. The 26 year-old, who remarkably is in his tenth season in the Castleford first team and starts his Testimonial next month, has been sidelined with a fractured knee cap sustained last April at St Helens.

On Huby's return to the squad, head coach Ian Millward said:

"The inclusion of Craig will benefit us; It's like making a mid season signing. He's a very skilful player and definitely has what it takes to play International.

"It's a big boost; he's really impressed us in training and over the last few weeks.

"We've been really careful with him. Our agenda at all times was to not only get him back, but to get him back fit and ready so he's in a position where he is not vulnerable.

"He's skilful, his presence is good and he adds size to the team.

"He'll play on Saturday which will be great for us as a club."

Alongside Huby, returning to the squad are Man of Steel Rangi Chase, club captain Danny Orr, full back Richard Owen, winger Nick Youngquest, and fellow props Grant Millington and Nathan Massey.

Making way for the returning players are hooker Ryan Hudson, back rows Lee Mitchell, James Grehan & John Davies, prop Steve Nash, winger Josh Atkinson, plus James Clare and Ben Johnson who both were non-playing members of Monday's squad.

Jordan Thompson and Adam Milner, retain their places having impressed against St Helens on Monday.

On naming his squad, head coach Ian Millward said:

"It's a knock out game so no one is going to worry about for or against. It's all about what happens on the day. The environment will be intense; a great atmosphere which is fantastic for the players. It will be interesting to see which team handles it the best.

"It is a big game, but our main focus is about getting through to the next round of the Challenge Cup. I'm very confident if we put our best foot forward then we can achieve that."

Huby blow for Castleford
Thu April 28, 2011
Castleford Tigers are reeling from the news that in-form prop forward Craig Huby will be out of action for at least four months with a fractured patella.

The Tigers' longest-serving player sustained the injury during their last-gasp 22-20 Engage Super League defeat at St Helens on Monday and remains in hospital.

Castleford coach Terry Matterson said: "He was operated on last night and it went well.

"He's going to be months. I don't know exactly but I'd say four minimum. Fingers crossed there are no complications and we can get him back for the semi-finals."

Huby, 24, has been playing the best rugby of his career to help Castleford make their best-ever start to a Super League campaign and Matterson believes he would have been in with a realistic chance of playing for England in the June 10 clash with the Exiles.

"It's a cruel blow for him," Matterson said. "He was a real chance of making the England squad.

"He and James Graham have been the best two front-rowers this year, I don't think there would be any argument about that.

"He's been getting better and better. He's worked hard over the years to get to this stage but he's become mentally strong and he'll be fine.

"We're going to miss him but we've got to deal with these things."

Huby's injury setback came just two days after his wife Vicky gave birth to their second child.

He is the club's third front row forward to be sidelined, joining youngster Jonny Walker and veteran Nick Fozzard on the injury list.

Meanwhile, Matterson will include utility back Ryan McGoldrick in his 19-man squad for the derby against Leeds Rhinos at the PROBIZ Coliseum on Friday.

McGoldrick has not played this season because of injury and was left out of the squad last week for disciplinary reasons.
