Karmichael Hunt Yellow For Comeback
Fri August 22, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill
Source: www.broncos.com.au

WOW Brisbane Broncos fullback Karmichael Hunt says he will have something else to think about when he makes his return from injury against the Gold Coast Titans tonight.

Both teams will run out onto Suncorp Stadium wearing fluorescent yellow socks as part of a testicular cancer awareness campaign.

The campaign was kicked off by Titans forward Brad Meyers earlier this week, after the international had a couple of mates diagnosed with the disease.

The Broncos were happy to get on board with the intitative, and Hunt said it would give the players reason to reflect before they go out in the big derby clash.

"You are normally pretty quiet and focussed before a game of this magnitude," said Hunt, who missed the Broncos' last game with a calf muscle injury.

"But as you are putting those yellow socks on, you will certainly have something else to think about.

"While it is a massive match for us, things like this remind you that there are important things in life other than football."

As part of the Hang On To Your Mates campaign, a simple SMS number has been set up to help raise funds through "TEXTY" support, where a simple text of name and suburb raises 50 cents each time. By texting 19711223* you can help support the fight against testicular cancer too.

Tonight's match will kick off at Suncorp at 7.30pm, with there still over 10,000 tickets available.

Roosters Hunt for Minichiello replacement
Fri July 18, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill
The big spending and high flying Sydney Roosters are set to join the race to sign Brisbane and Queensland fullback Karmichael Hunt for the 2009 season.

Hunt is shaping up as the biggest name off contract heading into next year and it's believed the Bondi based Roosters have earmarked Hunt as a replacement for former Australian fullback Anthony Minichiello.

Brisbane faces an uphill battle to retain Hunt with the Dragons, who will be coached by Wayne Bennett in 2009 also joining in the race to secure Hunt's services.

Minichiello succeeded Lockyer as Australian fullback in 2004 and he won the Golden Boot Award for the best player International player in 2005. However, Minichiello has struggled to get onto the field during the last three seasons and several out Bondi way are prepared to sacrifice Minichiello in exchange for Hunt.

The Roosters recently signed captain Craig Fitzgibbon for another season and it's believed Willie Mason's contract at the Roosters is largely back-ended.

Incoming Broncos coach Ivan Henjak has said that the Broncos are desperate to keep both Hunt and Lockyer beyond 2009.

Why did the NRL takeaway the June 30 deadline? The future of Hunt shouldn't be decided until after that date, or even July 31. In a week of blunders, mistakes and mishaps for the NRL administration led by David Gallop - another could the Hunt situation where rival clubs can openly make approaches about his future and even sign deals.

Where will Hunt be playing in 2010? Will it be the Broncos, Dragons, Roosters or even in France?
