Source: www.titans.com.auTowering Titan Jamal Idris and Gold Coast teammates Ben Ridge and Kayne Lawton today showed almost 100 young boys and girls some of the tricks of the trade at the club's Junior Rugby League Coaching Clinic at Banora Point.
Following on from the success of the club's QLD School Holiday Coaching Clinic at Coombabah a fortnight ago, the Jetstar Titans trio joined almost 100 boys and girls aged from 5-12 for the club's NSW-based School Holiday Coaching Clinic at Banora Point State High School.
The players joined the kids for some coaching drills before signing autographs and doing their best to answer some tricky questions from the aspiring youngsters.
Idris, who towered above the kids at 194cm tall, said it was important for the club to give young kids the opportunity to play and learn about rugby league.
"At the end of the day, for rugby league to succeed it's all about the children. They are the ones that are going to carry it on,'' said Idris.
"We need to get them involved in rugby league as much as we can and that's one of the most important things about footy.
"We get out into the community a lot - and a lot behind the scenes. The community work that we tend to do, we don't do it with much media there but its good today that you all get to see it.''
Tweed Coast Raiders junior Kayne Lawton is a perfect example of a local product who is realizing his dream - recalling a coaching clinic he did with former teammate Preston Campbell more than a decade ago in Northern NSW.
"I remember Preston Campbell coming down to my footy field at the Tweed Coast Raiders,'' said Lawton.
"Seeing Preston back then when I was seven years old and then being able to play with him at the Titans last year was something I won't forget.
"The kids are good, asking some good questions which stumped us a bit but they're all enthusiastic and love getting out here and having fun.
"Just to come down here and for the to see us I think is really important ? I remember seeing NRL players and I'm sure it's something they'll remember too.''

Source: www.titans.com.auGold Coast have today named strike centre Jamal Idris and winger David Mead to return from injury for Saturday's Round 6 clash against the Sydney Roosters at Skilled Park.
After missing the past three weeks with a hamstring injury, Idris was today named by Jetstar Titans Coach John Cartwright on an extended interchange bench while Mead was named on the wing in his first match back from a broken jaw.
However, the Titans will be missing NSW State of Origin representative Greg Bird (ankle) and emerging hooker Kayne Lawton (hamstring) after the duo suffered injuries in Sunday's 30-20 loss to the Bulldogs.
Young playmaker Jordan Rankin returns to the No.6 jersey in the absence of Bird, while forward Michael Henderson has been included on an extended five-man interchange bench in place of Lawton.
