Source: www.qrl.com.auTweed Heads Seagulls narrowly survived a second half surge to register a 34-26 victory over Easts Tigers in an enthralling contest at Piggabeen Sports Complex.
In a match that featured eleven tries, big hits, the occasional scuffle and two sin-bins, the Seagulls looked to be cruising 28-4 ahead in the early stages of the second half.
However, in shades of their previous game against the Pride, the home team took the foot off the gas - four straight tries to the Tigers saw them reduce the margin to just two points with 10 minutes to play.
But the miracle comeback proved just out of reach when, in cruel fashion, an Easts error was toed ahead by Seagulls skipper Brad Davis for the game sealing four-pointer.
It was a gallant effort from the Tigers, who finished short on troops following injuries to fullback Corey Thompson and winger Eddie Tautali.
After almost a year on the sidelines recovering from a knee reconstruction, the match also marked the return of long-haired Gold Coast Titans forward Ryan James.
Despite being one of two players sin binned for backchat, the 20-year old said he was simply happy to be on the paddock in his quest to return to the NRL.
"I've never been penalised for not playing the ball, so I just asked why I'd been penalised and he said 'you can go for ten", James said.
"I was glad to get out there and have a hit. Intrust Super Cup is a good competition, hopefully I can work my way back up."
The Seagulls dominated the early stages against a sluggish Tigers side - they rose to an 18-4 lead at the break with the help of a double to winger Tom Merritt.
Tweed Heads appeared to have landed the knock out punches when both Joe Vickery (42nd minute) and Shaun Carney (49th minute) capitalised on bombs to increase their side's lead to 28-4.
Tensions boiled over when Davis was hit late by prop Matt Zgrajewski - an ensuing scuffle saw Tigers hooker Geoff Holcombe sent to the sin bin for dissent.
The decision seemed to invigorate Easts, Zgrajewski then barged his way over before some quick hands allowed five-eighth Cody Walker to snatch his sixth try of 2012.
A comeback was well and truly on the cards when Wiremu Ratana's try was followed by a strong effort from Lance Morris on the wing, leaving the scoreboard delicately poised at 28-26 with 10 minutes to play.
However, with momentum well in their favour, a wayward Easts pass saw Davis pounce on the loose ball to ensure Tweed Heads' fifth straight win.
They now play the equally in-form Redcliffe Dolphins in front of the Channel Nine cameras at 2pm next Sunday.
TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS 34 (Shaun Carney 2, Tom Merritt 2, Joe Vickery, Brad Davis tries; Brad Davis 5 goals) def EASTS TIGERS 26 (Cody Walker, Kenny Bromwich, Matthew Zgrajewski, Lance Morris, Wiremu Ratana tries; Cody Walker 3 goals) at Piggabeen Sports.

Source: www.titans.com.auGold Coast Titans trio Scott Prince, Aidan Sezer and Ryan James today left on a helicopter flight to regional Queensland to help deliver Indigenous education workshops to communities in Dalby and Miles as part of the Titans 4 Tomorrow (T4T) program.
The players will be joined by Titans 4 Tomorrow ambassadors and former players Clinton Toopi and Dean Widders for the two-day trip where they will encourage young Indigenous students to stay in school and focus on receiving an education.
The visit is just one of a series of Titans 4 Tomorrow trips that Titans players have conducted in regional and remote communities throughout Queensland such as Doomadgee, Cherbourg, Mornington Island, Toowoomba and Kingaroy this year, combined with the club's ongoing community work in the Gold Coast region.
Jetstar Titans Captain Scott Prince has become all too familiar with the key educational messages associated with these type of visits through his involvement with the Titans 4 Tomorrow Indigenous programs and his role as a Learn. Earn. Legend ambassador.
"This is the behind the scenes stuff that doesn't seem to be reported on most weeks but we do a lot in the community and this is just a prime example,'' said Prince, before boarding the ABC Helicopter at Gold Coast Airport bound for Dalby this afternoon.
"We're going out to the remote community of Dalby and Miles to share the love and share the message about how important it is to stay at school and to get a very good education.
"I'm very proud and honoured to be a Learn. Earn. Legend ambassador with Preston Campbell and a couple of others.
"I'm looking forward to it - I'll never forget the days when footy players used to come out to Mount Isa, one for example was big Sam Backo who came out to one of the football games out there and shared the love with the kids.
"I look forward to it and hopefully we can touch the heart and souls of a few youngsters.''
James, who is studying a Bachelor of Business and Sports Management at Griffith University as he juggles his career as a professional NRL player, is a prime example of the key message the program aims to deliver.
The 20-year-old said his involvement in the community work associated withthe Indigenous All Stars concept two years ago had opened his eyes to what sort of impact sports people can have on young children.
"We're going out to the schools to reach out to the Indigenous community out there,'' said James.
"The Titans are a very community based club and it's really good what we do for the community. Over the last 11 months I've been doing a lot of it and it's been good to get out there and help the kids.
"After that first year of the Indigenous All Stars it's been good to see what you can do in the community.
"Working with people like Preston Campbell and Scotty Prince, kids just light up when they see them so hopefully one day in the future, I can have the impact that they do with the little kids.''
For Sezer, who has both Indigenous and Turkish heritage, the trip marked his first time on a helicopter in what has been a big week after his successful NRL debut in Saturday night's 26-14 win over Manly.
The Titans squad will continue to train for the remainder of the week right up until Thursday before receiving the weekend off due to the NRL's representative weekend.
Titans players will also attend a NSW School Holiday Coaching Clinic tomorrow at Banora Point State High School.
