Source: RleagueBetting.comOnline bookmaker tomwaterhouse.com has installed Newcastle great Andrew Johns as the $2 favourite to be the next man inducted into rugby league's most select club, that of the Immortals.
For the first time in nine years Rugby League Week will increase the membership of the Immortals, with tomwaterhouse.com tipping that Johns will join league legends Clive Churchill, Reg Gasnier, John Raper, Bob Fulton, Wally Lewis, Graeme Langlands and Arthur Beetson in the exclusive set.
"Johns ($2), Mal Meninga ($2.50), Norm Provan ($7) and Ron Coote ($10) are shaping as the leading contenders, with the odds favouring Joey and Big Mal because of the groundswell of opinion that the judges will want to recognise someone from the most recent 20 years of rugby league.
"Another factor that makes Johns the favourite is that it's probably about time that one of the Immortals was a halfback given that number seven is, arguably, rugby league's key position."

Source: www.newcastleknights.com.auThe inaugural five inductees into the Newcastle Knights Hall of Fame, proudly supported by Aggreko, have been announced at a gala dinner at Wests New Lambton tonight.
The inductees are:
Matthew Gidley
Michael Hagan
Paul Harragon
Andrew Johns
Allan McMahonAll five Hall of Fame members have made immeasurable contributions to the Newcastle Knights Rugby League Club in their roles as players, coaches and/or administrators.
Gidley, a local Newcastle product, wore the red and blue on 221 occasions and was a key member of the Knights' Grand Final winning team in 2001. A powerful and skilled centre, Gidley scored 68 tries for his hometown Club. Gidley is also the Knights' current CEO of Football Operations.
"The Knights have allowed me the opportunity to remain in Newcastle, represent my home city at a national level and meet and make some life long friends who have had a huge influence over my life," Gidley said.
Hagan, a clever five-eighth, played for Newcastle 111 times between 1989 and 1993 and was an integral part in building the Club culture in the early days of the Knights. Hagan took over the coaching reigns at his former Club in 2001. He guided the Knights to a Grand Final victory in his first season in charge and was at the helm of the Club for 154 matches between 2001 and 2006.
"Newcastle is a great town with a great football Club and I'm very privileged to have been a part of it for nearly 12 years as a player and a coach. It's an honour to be inducted into the Knights Hall of Fame," Hagan said.
Harragon played a total of 169 matches during a sensational career for his hometown Club. The heroic prop's crowning glory in the red and blue was captaining the Knights to the 1997 Premiership, where they defeated the Manly Sea Eagles 22-16 in a dramatic Grand Final. Harragon now serves as the Chairman of the Newcastle Knights Advisory Board.
"Being able to play in the big time with Newcastle was a dream as a kid and to represent where you come from is great. Newcastle is the greatest city in the world for many reasons, but when it comes to passion, pride and support, you can't beat Newcastle," Harragon said.
Arguably one of the greatest players of all time, Johns played for the Knights a record 249 times and still holds the Club record for most career points with 2,176. Johns was a standout performer in the Club's two Premiership wins in 1997 and 2001 and was awarded the Clive Churchill Medal for man-of-the-match in the 2001 Grand Final.
"It was always my dream to play for the Knights. To have done this will always be very special to me," Johns said.
McMahon was the Knights' coach during their inaugural season in 1988 was in charge of the Club for 83 games. McMahon built a team full of local junior talent and instilled a set of standards that the Club has continued to build upon. He laid the foundations for the proud and passionate culture that still resonates throughout the Club today.
The selection panel, made up of Michael Hill, Leigh Maughan, Alan Bell, Mike Rabbitt and Brett Keeble, made the decision to induct five members into the Hall of Fame. Hereafter, up to two members will be inducted annually.
The five inductees will be further celebrated at this Sunday's game at Hunter Stadium by being presented to the crowd.
Memorabilia items will be available from Thursday morning. More information is available at newcastleknights.com.au
