Source: www.melbournestorm.com.auMelbourne Storm lock Dallas Johnson has pledged his future to the club by putting pen to paper on a new three-year deal that will see him remain with the reigning NRL premiers until the end of the 2011 season.
Johnson, a Queensland State-of-Origin and Australian representative, is renowned for his ferocious tackling, and currently sits in second place in the NRL tackle count for the 2008 season behind teammate Cam Smith.
Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy knows how highly valued Johnson is at the Storm and is delighted Johnson has signed a new contract.
"Dallas is an integral part of our squad here and is very well respected by the players, coaches and staff," said Bellamy.
"He was voted into the leadership group last year by his teammates which goes to show how highly thought of he is. Not only is a very talented footballer, but he's also matured into one of our leaders.
"He's the kind of player his teammates love playing football with because you know every time Dallas puts on the Storm jersey he will give everything he's got to win."Johnson, who joined the Storm's full-time squad in 2003, explained that loyalty played a big part in his decision to remain in Melbourne.
"It's been a great period of my life since I've been in Melbourne, we've had plenty of success and I want to be a part of this club going forward," said Johnson.
"I'd like to think of myself as a loyal type of bloke, the club has been really good to me and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
"I love the city, I love the club and I'm very happy to be able to stay here. I've made some close friends since I've been in Melbourne and I see no reason to be looking to play my football anywhere else."Johnson was signed by Brisbane Norths, Melbourne's feeder club at the time, as an 18-year-old from the Atherton Tablelands in 2000.
He represented Queensland at junior level, including captaining the Maroons' under-19 team, and played for the Junior Kangaroos in 2001.
After signing full-time for the Storm in 2003, Johnson worked hard on his game, and his hard work paid off when he was chosen in Queensland's 2006 State-of-Origin squad, playing all three games and enjoying a long awaited series win over New South Wales.
The following season was a particularly good one for Johnson. Not only did he again play all three games in Queensland's second successive State-of-Origin series win over New South Wales, he also won the Grand Final with the Storm, represented Australia for the first time in the 58-0 demolition of New Zealand in October, and was named in the World XIII at lock forward.

Melbourne lock Dallas Johnson will make his Test debut after Paul Gallen was today ruled out of the Centenary Test with a shoulder injury.
Gallen was originally ruled out of contention for the one-off Test, but was later declared available where he was selected by his club coach Ricky Stuart.
Australia had their first training session today and Gallen pulled up sore with Dr Hugh Hazard ruling Gallen out of the Test.
It was to be Gallen's Test debut and now it will be Johnson's debut who was originally selected as the 18th man.
Johnson will come into the side at lock forward and increases Melbourne's representation to seven players following the inclusion of Israel Folau on Thursday and the original selections of Greg Inglis, Ryan Hoffman, Cooper Cronk, Michael Crocker and new Test captain Cameron Smith. Five of those players will be making their Test debuts and Crocker playing in his first Test in Storm colours giving Melbourne's International representation a massive boost.
Australia take on New Zealand at windy Wellington next Sunday and will start as unbackable favourites to continue their recent domination over the Kiwis where they have won their last five Tests since the 24-0 drubbing in 2005.
The Centenary Test is a celebration of 100 years of Rugby League in New Zealand. Following the Test the Kiwis will play three Tests against Great Britain and one against France while the All Golds will play a one-off International against England to celebrate 100 years of tours from New Zealand to the UK. Featuring in the All Golds side will be Ruben Wiki, Stacey Jones, Nigel Vagana and Steve Price with Wayne Bennett as the coach.
