Keating called in for Mateo
Tue July 15, 2008

Toyota Cup standout Kris Keating will make his National Rugby League starting debut on Friday after being called into the Pirtek Parramatta Eels side to play Manly at Brookvale Oval.

Keating has been named at five eighth in place of the injured Feleti Mateo.

Friday's game will be Keating's third at NRL level, coming after interchange appearances against Manly in round six and Penrith in round eight.

"Yes they're big shoes to fill but Kris has been training with us all season and is very aware of what he needs to do," Eels head coach Michael Hagan said.

"He brings great energy and enthusiasm to the football side which can only be a good thing in such a big match."

Captain Nathan Cayless has also been named in the Eels starting side after showing good signs in his recovery from an infected leg.

Also making a comeback is Toyota Cup captain Tim Mannah, who has missed the past two months due to a fractured kneecap.

Cameron Speechley fills the gap left by Keating's First Grade call up while regular Toyota Cup hooker Anthony Mitchell has been moved to five eighth, with Marty Lewis shifting back to lock.

Luke Mottinelli comes into the starting side at hooker.

Eels sign Keating to new two year deal
Fri May 2, 2008
Source: www.parraeels.com.au

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have secured the services of gifted playmaker and local junior Kris Keating for the 2009 & 2010 seasons.

The re-signing comes hot on the heels of his NRL debut, the Cabramatta product coming off the bench in the Eels 20-16 loss to Manly in round six.

The multi-talented 19-year-old has also been one of the Eels best in their undefeated start to the Toyota Cup season, confirming a reputation earned by captaining the club at every junior level.

Keating said choosing to take the new deal wasn't a hard decision to make.

"I made it pretty clear I wanted to stay so once the offer was on the table I said yes pretty much straight away," Keating said.

"I've been at the club since starting with the Harold Matthews Cup in 2003, so it's a comfortable place for me to be.

"I've had a taste of first grade now and I obviously want plenty more in the future so I'm more than happy to be sticking around."

Parramatta Eels Chief Executive Denis Fitzgerald said the retention of Keating is a massive boost for the club.

"We are very pleased to re-sign one of our most outstanding juniors, who has played Matthews Cup, SG Ball Cup and Jersey Flegg for Parramatta over the past few years," Mr. Fitzgerald said.

"In round six Kris became our first Toyota Cup player to play NRL and he performed very well in his debut."
