Warriors sign Broncos speedster Kemp for two years
Thu May 29, 2008

Young Brisbane winger-fullback Denan Kemp has been signed by the Vodafone Warriors for the 2009 and 2010 NRL seasons.

After missing the Broncos' first two matches of the year, the 21-year-old has played in each of the side's last eight games (mainly on the wing), scoring five tries.

Just days after his 20th birthday, he made a spectacular NRL debut at fullback against Manly last year when he ran 75 metres for a try voted one of the season's best.

Also able to play in the centres - which he has done for Brisbane this year - Kemp will link up with former Brisbane team-mate and first-year Vodafone Warrior Brent Tate.

"I'm excited about moving to Auckland to join the Vodafone Warriors. It's a really good club with a great coaching staff and squad," said Kemp from Brisbane.

"I've spoken to Tatey about living in New Zealand and he's been really helpful. He told me he loves it there.

"I've been shown around the place and I like what I've seen. It's a brilliant set-up.

"My focus is on this year with the Broncos but I'm also looking forward to coming over later in the year."

Coach Ivan Cleary said Kemp had all the qualities the Vodafone Warriors needed from an outside back.

"He'll certainly give us pace, a really good work ethic and he's also a goal kicker," he said.

A Gold Coast product, Kemp is a former Australian junior soccer representative. He'll link up with the Vodafone Warriors for their 2008-09 off-season training programme.

Broncos Go Coastal
Fri November 16, 2007
Source: www.broncos.com.au

The Brisbane Broncos will tour the Queensland Coast for the first time in the history of the Australia Post annual tour.

The 11th annual Australia Post Broncos Tour will kick-off in Mackay on Monday 19 November and travel south to the Gold Coast. Traditionally the tour has travelled to western Queensland areas, so the new direction will be a welcome delight for coastal kids.

During the five-day tour more than 1500 children from Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Gin Gin, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Gympie, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast will attend Broncos training clinics, learning first-class football coaching skills from some of their sporting heroes.

A team of nine including internationals Michael Hancock and Michael DeVere and former NRL top grader Darren Burns will conduct the 2007 tour. Other touring members include: development officers Paul Dyer, Kate Watson and Simon Scanlon and sponsorship co-ordinator Vicki Ciocca.

Current Broncos player Steve Michaels will join the touring party for the Rockhampton, Gladstone, Gin Gin and Bundaberg visits, 2006 premier player Darius Boyd and young gun Denan Kemp will join the touring party on Thursday to take part in the Gympie and Sunshine Coast clinics and front row powerhouse Ben Hannant will attend the Gold Coast clinic.

Members of the public will also have the opportunity to meet their league heroes at a range of appearances at Australia Post outlets (details below). Australia Post is this year celebrating a 20-year partnership with the Brisbane Broncos and has been sponsoring the regional tour since its inception 11 years ago.

Australia Post's Queensland Commercial Manager Helen Brodie said Australia Post and the Brisbane Broncos shared a common goal in providing young Queenslanders with unique sporting opportunities.

"Queenslanders love rugby league and especially the Broncos," she said. "The Broncos are Australia's number one sporting brand and have easily the highest home crowd averages in the NRL and the highest number of supporters."

Broncos Game Development Co-ordinator Paul Dyer said the Broncos have always been proud of
the development work they conduct throughout regional Queensland.

"The Australia Post Broncos Tour is a great example of this," he said. "The kids will benefit from learning the basics of rugby league in a fun and friendly atmosphere, with an emphasis on staying active.

"We recognise that not all our fans can travel to support their team on the weekend so this tour allows us to meet some of our dedicated supporters. The Broncos cannot provide these opportunities without the help of naming rights tour sponsor Australia Post, who continue to allow us to bring these tours to regional Queensland every year."

Information on Current Players

Steve Michaels, Age: 20, Birthplace: Gold Coast, Position: Centre or wing, NRL debut: 11/6/05, NRL Games: 32.
Steve was the most consistent player in the Broncos' ranks last year, appearing in every minute of every game of the season. He was the club's second-highest try-scorer in 2007 and was selected in the Australian Prime Minister's 13 team to play Papua New Guinea at season's end, foreshadowing a future State of Origin career.

Darius Boyd, Age: 20, Birthplace: Brisbane, Position: Centre or Fullback, NRL debut: 12/3/06, NRL Games: 49.
Darius had the dream introduction to his NRL career in 2006, a shock starter in the first game of the year and holding his position all through the season as the Broncos won the premiership. This year he matured immensely and entrenched himself as a first grader every week.

Denan Kemp, Age: 20, Birthplace: Gold Coast, Position: Fullback, NRL debut: 21/5/07, NRL games: 4.
Denan Kemp has been tipped as a rising star in the Broncos future after a shock injection into the NRL in 2007. He scored an 80-metre individual try on debut and showed his tenacity in the handful of chances he received this season. He will get a lot more opportunities in first grade in 2008.

Ben Hannant, Age: 22, Birthplace: Gold Coast, Position: Front row, NRL debut: 3/4/05, NRL Games: 54.
The Broncos thought they had seen the best of Ben Hannant when he was an integral part of the club's run to the 2006 grand final victory. But this year Hannant exuded a new toughness and attitude that saw him become a certain team choice for coach Wayne Bennett every week. Expect even more in 2008.
