Burns and Kingston extend Panthers contracts

The Penrith Panthers have extended deals with five-eights Travis Burns and hooker Kevin Kingston.

Both Burns and Kingstone have proved to be great acquisitions for the club with both players having added a fresh dimension to the team.

The extension to their current contracts which was for 2010, now sees the pair remain at the club until the end of 2013 - further establishing the key positions of 1, 6, 7 and 9.

"Our strategy has been to lock in those key positions long term," CEO Michael Leary said.

"We were able to secure Luke Walsh for the same term recently and Lachlan Coote re-signed with the club last year until 2012 so we are in a very good position with these players.

"Keeping those players together will enable us consistency as we continue to sign players.

Burns joined the Panthers having played 72 first grade games for both Manly and North Queensland. Kingston played 78 first grade games for both Cronulla and Parramatta including the 2009 Grand Final before becoming a Panther.

The Penrith Panthers have today announced the signings of Kevin Kingston from the Parramatta Eels and Adrian Purtell from the Canberra Raiders.

While both players have been linked with the club through media reports for some weeks now, it wasn't until today that both signings have been officially confirmed with both agreeing to terms with the club.

"We have been actively pursuing both players to add to our squad for 2010," CEO Michael Leary said. "However, it hasn't been until today that deals have been finalised with both of them."

"Kevin is an ideal player for our team having gained a lot of experience in making it to this year's grand final. He will fill the void in our hooking role which was left vacant after Paul Aiton's departure.

"Adrian is also a good acquisition giving the team some depth, he had a disrupted season this year but we are confident he will add depth to what is already an exciting backline."

Purtell is contracted for 2 years (2010 &11) while Kingston is signed for 1 year.
