Source: www.superleague.co.ukBottom club Widnes Vikings prevented Wigan Warriors going top of the Stobart Super League with a shock win thanks to a drop-goal from Lloyd White 10 minutes from time.
The Vikings looked down and out when they trailed 36-18 after 48 minutes, but hit back in style.
Widnes drew level before White landed his dramatic one-pointer to seal a deserved victory and leave Wigan perhaps regretting their decision to rest five big names.
Vikings coach Denis Betts handed ex-Warriors full-back Cameron Phelps and fellow Australian Sione Kite debuts alongside young half back Gareth O'Brien - signed on loan from Warrington Wolves - and he booted six goals from six attempts.
Kite replaced the injured Ben Cross with Jon Clarke, Dave Allen, Shaun Briscoe, Ben Davies and on-loan Stefan Marsh lining up against their old club.
Wigan rested Sam Tomkins, Pat Richards,Thomas Leuluai, Liam Farrell and Sean O'Loughlin with Logan Tomkins, younger brother of Sam, making his debut alongside youngsters Matthew Russell, Joe Mellor and Anthony Gelling.
Clarke made his 300th career appearance with Briscoe clocking up 250 and Widnes turned in a battling effort in their bid for a first win back in the big time.
Wigan swept ahead after only three minutes with Gareth Hock crashing over following neat work by Michael McIlorum and Brett Finch. Stand-in kicker Josh Charnley booted the conversion and added the extras to Harrison Hansen's try in the seventh minute after Chris Tuson surged between Frank Winterstein and Phelps.
It looked as though Widnes were going to be in for a tough afternoon but on their first real attack Winterstein was only denied by Mellor. Then Phelps just failed to touch down from an O'Brien grubber kick before Widnes were rewarded for their endeavour.
Paddy Flynn picked up a loose Briscoe pass to go over and cut the gap to 12-6, although Wigan looked set to take charge when Russell shrugged off a couple of defenders to score a debut try with Charnley landing the touchline goal.
Widnes came roaring back with two converted tries in two minutes to draw level at 18-18 by half-time. O'Brien and Briscoe combined for Marsh to squeeze in at the corner and then Briscoe supported a Simon Finnigan break to score near the posts and stun the Warriors.
Wigan looked to have finally established an unassailable lead when they romped 36-18 ahead after 50 minutes.
Brett Finch, Joe Mellor and Russell all went over in a frantic five-minute spell with Charnley tagging on all the goals.
But Widnes refused to lie down and stunned Wigan with a magnificent fightback.
Substitute White began the revival by going over, with Briscoe bagging his second try before Winterstein battered his way through. O'Brien landed all three conversions to level again at 36-36.
Widnes, spurred on by a vociferous crowd, went ahead for the first time 10 minutes from the end with a 30-metre drop-goal from White.
Charnley missed a late penalty for Wigan, but it would have been an injustice had Widnes lost.

Widnes Vikings latest signing Sione "John" Kite belatedly linked up with the Stobart Super League new boys today and announced his determination to make up for lost time.
The 24-year-old former Melbourne and Canterbury front rower signed a 12-month contract on the eve of the new season but was forced to miss the first month as he awaited the arrival of his visa.
"It seems to have taken an absolute age to get here but now that I am, I'm keen to get out on the field and prove myself to the club and its supporters," said the 6ft 5in, 18st forward.
"I've been following the team's progress back home and I share the disappointment of how things have gone so far.
"Only signing for one year is a massive motivator for me and it is something I will use to ensure that my performances are consistent throughout the season."
Kite will link up at the Stobart Stadium with Australian utility back Cameron Phelps, whose arrival in England was also held up by red tape.
