Lauitiiti returns for Rhinos
Thu June 26, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill
Source: www.leedsrugby.com

Rhinos star Ali Lauitiiti is set to return for the World Champions as they take on Castleford Tigers this Saturday at Headingley Carnegie, kick off 6pm.

The giant second rower has been out since injuring his knee against Bradford five weeks ago. However, an intense period of training and treatment have got him back to full fitness.

He commented, "I started running last week and everything has gone well. We have got to the bottom of the problem now with my knee. Our physio Meirion Jones and conditioner Jason Davidson have done a good job with me. We have built up the muscles around my knee and quad to give me more stability and I have lost some weight. They have been working me overtime to drop the weight and I am probably a couple of kilograms lighter than when I last played. I feel better for having lost the weight. My problem is that I have a sweet tooth! But I have really knuckled down to lose the weight to help me get back quicker and make sure that I don't break down again.

"We did a lot of extra work early in the morning before the other guys came in and after they have gone home. I have targeted the Cas game for a couple of weeks and I am looking forward to it," added Lauitiiti.
Elsewhere in the 19 man squad, McClennan is without seven players who will be involved in the Gillette Fusion Test Match on Friday night whilst Nick Scruton will begin his three match ban and Carl Ablett has suffered an ankle injury in the defeat to St Helens last Friday.

The average age of the squad is 23 however only Joe Chandler and Michael Haley have not played for the first team this season and the latter has been playing for Doncaster in the Co-operative National League on loan.

The squad in full is:

01. Brent Webb
02. Scott Donald
05. Lee Smith
08. Kylie Leuluai

Trio return for Rhinos blockbuster clash
Wed June 27, 2007
Source: www.leedsrugby.com

Leeds Rhinos coach Tony Smith has included Brent Webb, Ali Lauitiiti and Nick Scruton in his 20-man squad for this Friday's eagerly awaited clash with Bradford Bulls at Headingley Carnegie, kick off 8pm.

New Zealand international Webb missed the Rhinos win over Huddersfield a fortnight ago with a knee injury whilst Lauitiiti has been out for six weeks following minor knee surgery. England prop Scruton has been playing for the Rhinos Senior Academy for the past four weeks as he continues his recovery from a broken bone in his foot suffered in the first month of the season.

Great Britain international Danny McGuire is included after suffering a head injury in the win over France last Friday at Headingley Carnegie and will be assessed later in the week to confirm his availability for Friday's game. With the return of Webb, Lauitiiti and Scruton it means that the Rhinos only have Ashley Gibson unavailable due to a long term injury as the young centre recovers from a knee reconstruction.

Commenting on the squad Head Coach Tony Smith said, "Brent and Ali will have fitness tests later in the week to ensure that they are 100% before Friday and likewise Danny will have the necessary pre-cautionary tests to give him the all clear. Bradford will be a massive test for us but it should be a fantastic game, as the previous two matches have been this season, and we are looking forward to it."

Ticket sales for the game are indicating a sell out crowd of 22,000 for Friday night's game which will be the second biggest ever at Headingley Carnegie in the summer era. The Carnegie Stand, both seats and terracing, the Main Stand and the Paddock Stand have all now sold out with limited availability in the South Stand still available. Fans can purchase tickets from both the Headingley Carnegie ticket office and also from the Grattan Stadium, Odsal. Tickets can be booked in person or by calling 08700 606050 or the easiest and most convenient way is online at www.leedsrugby.com where fans can book 24 hours a day.
