Source: www.wiganwarriors.comWigan Warriors confirm that Kiwi International Scrum Half and Hooker, Thomas Leuluai, will leave the Club at the end of the 2012 season. Leuluai will return home to be near his family and join the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL on a three year contract.
Speaking about the news, Wigan Chairman Ian Lenagan said:
"We are obviously disappointed that Tommy has decided to leave Wigan once his current Contract comes to an end. He is a World Class player and Wigan were extremely keen to persuade him to stay and extend his Contract further. We made every effort to do so including an exceptional financial offer. In saying that, we fully understand and respect his desire to return to Auckland to play in the NRL in front of his family whilst still at the peak of his playing career.
"Having known Tommy for many years, both in London and at Wigan, I have seen him develop over the last 7 years both as a person and a Rugby League player. As a World Class performer he has played an important role in Wigan's recent successes in winning the 2010 Grand Final and 2011 Challenge Cup and I know he will be doing everything he can in the year ahead to help the Team challenge for further honours.
"In making his decision early, Thomas has also given the Club time to plan for the future. Over the course of the next 12 months we will be seeking a suitable replacement whilst hoping that one of our exceptionally-talented young players from within the ranks are able to step up and fill the gap for 2013 and beyond. "
Thomas Leuluai added:
"I will be very sad to leave Wigan at the end of next season but it always been my desire to return home to be with my family at some point and joining the New Zealand Warriors is a great opportunity for me.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed playing in Super League and with Wigan in particular and I am really looking forward to ending my time over here with further success in 2012. This is a really exciting time under the new Warriors Head Coach, Shaun Wane, and I want to reassure everyone that I am fully committed - as ever - to give my all during next season."

Source: www.warriors.co.nzExperienced Kiwi utility Thomas Leuluai is coming home to play for the Vodafone Warriors again.
The 26-year-old will swap one Warriors club for another after his manager Peter Brown negotiated a three-year deal for Leuluai to return to the Vodafone Warriors when his existing contract with the Wigan Warriors ends following the 2012 English Super League season.
The son of 1979-1986 Kiwi legend James, Leuluai passed his father's 29-Test tally when he played his 30th international in the Kiwis' Four Nations loss to England at Hull's KC Stadium last weekend. Their combined total of 59 Tests is clearly the world record for most internationals by a father and son combination.
After seven seasons in the Super League, Leuluai said he was ready to return home and was also driven to play in the NRL again.
"I love playing in the Super League and Wigan's a great club to be a part of but, at some point, I was going to head home again," he said.
"I also had a real desire to go back to where it all started at the Vodafone Warriors. I'm looking forward to a new challenge and achieving new goals."
While confirming Leuluai's signature from 2013, Bell said the club was also doing all it could to retain standoff James Maloney, who is off contract at the end of the 2012 NRL season.
"We're in active discussions with James and his manager about a contract with us beyond 2012," he said.
"We're committed to trying to extend his time with us as we continue our strategy to build the best squad we can."
Vodafone Warriors head coach Brian McClennan said while Leuluai had been secured it was also a priority to retain Maloney.
"We want him to commit to the Vodafone Warriors for 2013 and beyond," he said.
"He's a valued member of our squad and has developed into a top-quality player since he joined our club in 2010. He has been talking to other clubs which is his right but he also knows we want to keep him at Mount Smart Stadium."
McClennan added Leuluai would provide immense value for the Vodafone Warriors with the depth of his experience and his playmaking ability.
"Thomas is so highly regarded in England and brings a lot of experience despite being only 26," he said.
"He is an outstanding performer for Wigan and he has also established himself as a vital player for the Kiwis. Equally capable at 6, 7 or 9, he's a real big match player as he has proved winning the World Cup and Four Nations finals with the Kiwis as well as the Super League grand final and the Challenge Cup final with Wigan.
"It's also great for us to have players of Tommy's quality coming back to the Vodafone Warriors, just as Logan Swann did a few years ago."
At the time of his NRL debut in 2003, Leuluai was the youngest-ever player to appear in a first-grade match for the Vodafone Warriors. Like Elijah Taylor has done this year, Leuluai also had the distinction in 2003 of making his NRL and Test debuts in the same year.
Since moving to England he has made almost 200 Super League appearances.
He helped the Wigan Warriors to Challenge Cup glory when they beat Leeds in August, Leuluai's first visit to the famous Wembley Stadium. In 2010, he was awarded the Harry Sunderland Trophy as the man of the match when Wigan beat St Helens to win the Super League grand final at Old Trafford. Next season will be his sixth with Wigan.
