Luke MacDougall to make Bulldogs debut against Sharks
Tue May 15, 2012
Source: www.bulldogs.com.au

Luke MacDougall will play his first NRL match as a Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldog in Monday night's ANZ Stadium encounter against the Cronulla Sharks.

MacDougall comes onto the wing for Monday night's clash with Jonathan Wright moving into the centres as a result of Josh Morris' call up for State of Origin duty.

It means the 29-year old will play his first match for the Bulldogs against the side he made his First Grade debut with a decade ago, when he took the field for the Sharks against Brisbane in round four of the 2002 NRL season.

Since that time he has played 70 NRL matches for Cronulla, South Sydney, St George-Illawarra, Newcastle and Melbourne, crossing for 40 tries in that time.

MacDougall's inclusion and Wright's move for Morris are the only changes to the 17 that took on the Titans on Friday night, while Marty Taupau has not been included on the bench as he will travel to Auckland on Friday ahead of Saturday's NSW Cup Grand Final rematch against the Auckland Vulcans.

The Bulldogs head for New Zealand off a 22-all draw against the Illawarra Cutters, with off season recruit James Gavet set to face his former side for the first time.

It'll also be the first time the two sides have met since the Bulldogs won the 2011 decider in dramatic circumstances, scoring late to seal a 30-28 victory.

And in the Toyota Cup, coach Andy Patmore has named an unchanged side to that which defeated the Gold Coast 52-6 at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday.

Centre Ed Murphy crossed four times and skipper Moses Mbye twice in the rout, which also featured an outstanding display in defence, with the Titans scoring their first and only try one minute out from full time.

They'll expect a tougher time of things against the eighth placed Sharks, who are just one win behind the Bulldogs having defeated the Storm 32-22 at Shark Park on Sunday.

Lett, MacDougall and Gavet on board with the Bulldogs for 2012
Tue November 1, 2011
Source: www.bulldogs.com.au

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have retained the services of Michael Lett for 2012 while centre/winger Luke MacDougall and prop James Gavet have also come on board ahead of the official start to pre-season training today.

Lett started in three NRL matches for the Bulldogs in 2011, scoring two tries, while he finished the NSW Cup season with a premiership after crossing for a double in the Grand Final.

Those two tries in the decider took Lett to a grand total of 28 for the year, scored in just 20 matches.

His retention on a one year deal gives the Bulldogs strike power out wide whilst also giving head coach Jim Dymock another option in the outside backs, with Lett having the ability to play wing, fullback and centre.

Gavet joins the Bulldogs from the New Zealand Warriors, where his form for feeder team and Bulldogs NSW Cup Grand Final opponent the Auckland Vulcans saw him judged the prop of the year in the NSW Cup.

The 22 year old has signed a two year deal with the Bulldogs.

Although uncapped at NRL level, Gavet has benefited from three years in the Warriors program, the past two of which have seen him in full time training with their NRL squad. He also featured in 18 matches for the Warriors Toyota Cup side during 2009.

MacDougall makes his return to action with the Bulldogs after sitting out the 2011 season following his decision to cut short a stint with English Rugby Union club Saracens in March.

A World Club Championship winner with the Melbourne Storm in early 2010, MacDougall started his career with Cronulla in 2002 and has also had stints at South Sydney, St. George-Illawarra, Newcastle and the Storm.

He is the youngest of the footballing MacDougall family, alongside older brothers Adam (Newcastle, South Sydney, NSW & Australia) and Ben (Western Suburbs, Newcastle, Northern Eagles, Manly, Melbourne & Scotland RU).

"It's great to have Letty, Luke and James on deck ahead of pre-season," Bulldogs head coach Jim Dymock said. "Letty has got a heap of pace and he can certainly sniff out a try, blokes like him are hard to find.

"We're a bit light on in the outside backs so having him and Luke on board will be important for us. Luke's a quality player with 70 NRL matches under his belt, and like Letty he's a proven finisher. With Tim Lafai overcoming a shoulder reconstruction Luke's going to give us another option in the centres, alongside Tim, Josh Morris and Jono Wright.

"James on the other hand is a big unit in the middle of the field and he's got a great offload on him. We got plenty of opportunities to look at him first hand during the NSW Cup season and he'll be a valuable addition to the squad."
