Scotland Rugby League are celebrating the arrival of their team in Australia today for the World Cup with the release of a new T-shirt celebrating the heritage of the game north of the border.

As you can see from the photos, Scotland forward Duncan MacGillivray went to work in his - at Wakefield Trinity's Belle Vue ground - and half-back Andrew Henderson - one of three brothers in the Scotland squad - showed his off in front of the Saltire!

It's the latest shirt in a series called Le Treize Patrimoine - French for 'The Rugby League Heritage' - and features the names of a string of Scottish rugby league stars of the past including Great Britain's 1954 World Cup winning captain Dave Valentine and team-mate David Rose, who scored one of GB's two tries in the final. Huddersfield legend Valentine and Rose are just two of seven Great Britain internationals on the T-shirt. The others are Wigan's 1929 Wembley hero Roy Kinnear (father of the comic actor with the same name and grandfather of current star West End actor Rory Kinnear); Leeds' prolific young winger of the 1950s, Drew Turnball; duel-code British Lion Alan Tait; Hull KR legend George Fairbairn (who became England's record points-scorer when there was no Scotland team in the 1980s); and Charlie Renilson, who went from Jed-Forest to Eastern Suburbs via Halifax, with whom he won the Championship in 1965.

Also on the T-shirt is maverick Whitehaven scrum-half Brian Shillinglaw and former Salford and Halifax forward, Hugh Duffy, who, like Rose, headed south from Jedforest in the 50s.

The high quality cotton T-shirts are priced 16.99 incl P&P come in size Large, XL or XXL and can be ordered by emailing rlbravehearts@hotmail.com or texting 'Scotland T' to 07796 442041.

Sales will be used to fund the Scotland RL Player of the Year Awards.

MacGillivray voted top Scot
Sun December 2, 2007
by Gavin Willacy
Scotland second-rower Duncan MacGillivray has been voted Scotland Player of the Year 2007. The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats forward won the votes by the management team of coach Steve McCormack, assistant Dave Rotheram and manager Richard Thewliss. MacGillivray wins the Dave Valentine Award, named after Scotland's greatest ever rugby league player, the Hawick legend who captained Great Britain to World Cup glory in 1954 and led Huddersfield throughout the fifties and sixties.

"Duncan has come back into the Scotland squad and was our Man of the Match in Perpignan, when he led an under-strength side against France, and again a week later in the game against Wales," explained Thewliss. "He showed what it means to him to play for Scotland, showing a fantastic example in his own quiet way."

MacGillivray, who has waited three years between his first and second appearance, was delighted: "I'm so proud to win this award. Now I can't wait to next Autumn and the chance to play for a country as great as Scotland in the World Cup in Australia."

Liverpool Buccaneers star Scott Porteous was voted Scotland A Team Player of the year and wins the David Rose Award after his displays for his country and his nomination as the Rugby League Conference's Young Player of the Year Award, the best young amateur player in Britain last summer.

Edinburgh loose forward Barry Earl won the Roy Kinnear Award as top Student player while Kent winger Aiden Oakley picked up the Under-18 award named after former Scotland international Graeme Thompson - named today as England's manager for the World Cup ? and Crawford Mathhews the Nathan Graham Award for best Under-16 player.

The awards will be presented in the New Year.
