Source: www.quins.co.ukHarlequins Rugby League fullback Mark McLinden will leave the club at the end of this season.
The 29 year old Australian, who was on contract for the 2009 season, has been released by Harlequins Rugby League in a bid to best manage their quota signings for the coming season.
Harlequins Rugby League Head Coach, Brian McDermott, has commented:
"While planning for next year with players, Marty has expressed a desire to return home and continue his career in Australia. As much as this is a blow to the squad and the club I can also understand his feelings at the moment."
"After looking at what the quota restrictions are for next year, it became a decision that was amicable for both Marty and the team."
"I certainly don't want to be losing one of my best players but the quota system means that difficult decisions have to be taken at the right time."
"Mark has been a huge help to me in my transition to being a Head Coach. He has been very supportive of both the club and myself and he will be a huge loss."
McLinden, who originally signed for the club in their London Bronco days at the end of 2004, has said:
"I have been in London now for four years and feel it is about time I returned home. My mum has been trying to get me back home ever since I left, and you can only say no to your mum for so long.
"My experience here has been the best of my life, and I have the players, staff and our supporters to thank for making my time so enjoyable.
"Although I return to my family and friends in Australia, I feel that I will always be welcome back at 'The Stoop', and look forward to visiting in the future."
Keith Hogg, Harlequins Rugby League Chairman, added:
"On behalf of everyone at Harlequins Rugby League I wish Mark all the best for the future and thank him for all he has done for our club.
"I know that everyone associated with the club has appreciated what he can do on a rugby pitch and has enjoyed his company off the pitch. He returns to Australia with a tremendous reputation and should be very proud of what he has achieved during his time in London."
McLinden says he hopes to secure his future in the next few weeks.

Source: www.quins.co.ukHarlequins full-back Mark McLinden will be out of action for at least 3 months after undergoing surgery two times this week.
The 28-year-old Australian, who has not played since round 7 due to an Achilles Tendon injury, underwent surgery earlier this week for an unrelated illness affecting his abdomen.
McLinden was discharged from hospital then readmitted days later to undergo further surgery due to infection.
Harlequins Rugby League Head Coach Brian McDermott has said:
"This is a big blow for Marty (Mark). He's one of our main strike players and we are really missing out not having him with us.
"We all feel for him because it's frustrating when you are out and it's concerning when it is for something serious like this. All our thoughts are with him."It is hoped Mclinden will discharged from hospital within the next week.
