Milne remains a Raider

CFMEU Canberra Raiders fullback David Milne has been rewarded for some outstanding form of late, after he today signed a new three year deal with the Green Machine.

Milne, 22, has found a new home at fullback in the last few weeks for the Raiders, and has been one of the in form players in the team over this period.

Originally from Griffith in NSW Milne joined the Raiders as a junior following a background in athletics, and is one of the quickest players at the Raiders along with fellow flyers Phil Graham and Justin Carney.

Starting the season in the Queensland Cup Milne was brought into first grade after a series of injuries forced some changes in the Raiders line up, and he's made the most of his opportunities starting at fullback for the past five weeks.

Milne said he was happy to have his future sorted, and could now concentrate on continuing to improve each week.

"Contract time is a hard on players as they can sometimes lose focus so I am just glad to have it done and I can now get back to playing footy," Milne said. "To stay with the Raiders is something I wanted to do and to get the chance at three more years is great."

Milne said the shift to fullback had been a great way for him to get more involved with the ball during matches, but would not take his recent form for granted.

"I'm really enjoying playing fullback at the moment and it's somewhere I want to stay," he said. "I'm not big on setting long term goals and I just like to take it game by game, so I need to make sure each game is a good one."

Raiders CEO Don Furner said Milne's shift to fullback had been a telling factor in his re-signing, and he was glad to have him stay at the Raiders for three more years.

"It was great to get Milney over the line, it's never an easy time contract negotiations, but he was playing so well since getting his shot at fullback so the coaching staff were definitely keen to keep him," Furner said. "At the moment his form will see him at fullback, and if he keeps playing the way he is there's no reason why he won't stay there long term."
