Roosters ensure Minichiello stays a one-club man

In a huge boost for the club, Sydney Roosters one-club man Anthony Minichiello has today agreed to terms for an extension of his contract for another season, keeping him at the club until the end of 2013.

"My heart is with the Roosters - I'm a Rooster through and through. The Roosters have played a huge role in my life both on and off the field - I've spent half my life here and absolutely love the place."

Minichiello joined the Roosters in 1997 and will play his 14th season in first grade with the club next year.

The Roosters fullback - a former Golden Boot and Dally M Fullback of the Year winner - added that he was looking forward to continuing to work with the many young players developing and progressing through the ranks.

"I'm really excited that I will continue to be a part of the Roosters for another season. There's a great young talented squad here and we are looking forward to a bright future."

Sydney Roosters Chairman Mr Nick Politis said: "Anthony is a very proud clubman and we are delighted to repay his loyalty to the Roosters with this extension to his contract.

"Mini has etched his place not only in the history books of our proud club but the game of rugby league and is a great ambassador both on and off the field.

"His great work ethic means that he continues to rank as one of the game's leading fullbacks and his experience will continue to benefit the young and talented squad around him."

Sydney Roosters Chief Executive, Mr Steve Noyce, added: "Mini is such a big part of the Club and a popular figure with his team mates and among Roosters Members, Sponsors and Supporters for the way he conducts himself in all facets of his life.

"With 13 years of first grade service already under his belt, it's wonderful to have him here as part of our campaign for another season."

Having already achieved success at every level of the game, Minichiello will play his 236th match with the Tricolours this Sunday in the Roosters' Round 9 home game against the Newcastle Knights.

He is the second most capped player in the foundation club's proud 104 year history behind fellow Centurion Luke Ricketson (301 games) and holds the club record for most tries with a current tally of 111, having broken Bill Mullins' long-standing record of 104 in 2011.

The Sydney Roosters have ended months of speculation about the future of their fullback position by re-signing veteran Anthony Minichiello for the 2013 season.

Minichiello made his NRL debut for the Roosters in 2000 and has been a mainstay at the glamour Bondi Junction club ever since.

The former Australian International started his career on the wing, but moved to the fullback position in 2003 and quickly established himself as one of the best custodians in the game.

Minichiello won the Golden Boot award in 2005, however, injuries plagued his career for the next few seasons. He shrugged off the injuries in time for the 2010 season and has been one of the Roosters most consistent performers in the last three seasons.

The Roosters have been in the market for Canberra fullback Josh Dugan at various stages in 2010 and earlier this year and were also linked to Manly fullback Brett Stewart.

Minichiello was outstanding for the Roosters in the heart-breaking loss against the Dragons on ANZAC Day, which no doubt prompted Roosters officials to quickly sign Mininichiello and allow the signing to provide experienced stablity at the club.

With Braith Anasta moving to Wests Tigers next year there is every chance that Minichiello could be made Club Captain next season.
