Source: www.warriors.co.nzExciting Brisbane centre/standoff Joel Moon will join team-mate Denan Kemp on a three-year NRL contract at the Vodafone Warriors next season.
Despite interest from other clubs including St George Illawarra, the Caloundra-born Moon (20) today committed himself to moving to Auckland through to the end of the 2011 season.
He'll link up with Broncos winger Kemp (21) and Queensland and Cowboys back rower Jacob Lillyman (24), who have both signed two-year contracts with the Vodafone Warriors. Kemp's signing was announced three weeks ago while Lillyman's was confirmed only two days ago.
Moon, who has made 23 NRL appearances since his Brisbane debut in 2006, said there were numerous reasons behind his decision.
"I've been told I'll have the chance to play in my preferred position in the halves and I'm really excited about that," he said.
"I'm also excited about moving to a new city and joining a club that has such huge potential with so many good players.
"What impresses me about the Vodafone Warriors is their professionalism, especially the way they went about their negotiations."
Vodafone Warriors coach Ivan Cleary said it was a huge boost for the club to secure a player of Moon's talent.
"It's exciting for us to know we'll have a player of his ability in our squad," he said.
"Joel has been highly regarded from the time he was first noticed. This is a real coup for the club and we certainly see him providing great value for us."
Moon, who made his NRL debut only three weeks after his 18th birthday, has been keenly sought after by rival clubs during his short career, most notably by Melbourne which made a substantial offer to him in his first season in 2006. He chose to stay with the Broncos instead.
While Moon has been used mainly in the centres and on the wing by Brisbane, his preferred position is standoff. He can also play at halfback, as he did in a try-scoring display for the Broncos in their 19-18 win over Wests Tigers at Suncorp Stadium last night. During Channel Nine's coverage of the game, commentator and former Queensland Origin and Brisbane star Ben Ikin said Moon was "a superstar in the making".
The Vodafone Warriors have so far snared three more Queenslanders - Moon, Lillyman and Kemp - for their 2009 squad but they're still looking at other recruitment options.
The new signings are complemented by seven players being re-signed recently - Steve Price, Wade McKinnon, Manu Vatuvei and Aidan Kirk as well as three Vodafone Junior Warriors - Sonny Fai, Russell Packer and Ben Matulino - who have graduated from the under-20 NYC ranks to make their NRL debuts this season.

Source: www.broncos.com.auJoel Moon has won his way into a starting spot for the WOW Brisbane Broncos match against the Wests Tigers on Saturday.
Moon will replace Steve Michaels in the centres after Michaels ruptured his cruciate ligament last week. He will require a full knee reconstruction.
That opens the way for Moon to partner Justin Hodges in the centres in the game at Sydney's newly-named ANZ Stadium.
Bronco coach Wayne Bennett named an 18-man team today, with young prop David Taylor on the bench.
He will battle for the final playing spot with 18th man Derrick Watkins.
Watkins, who has previously played NRL with the North Queensland Cowboys, is yet to debut for the Broncos.
The Broncos will consider taking 18 players to Sydney with halfback Peter Wallace to play for City against Country in the NSW representative match in Wollongong on Friday night.
