Mortimer steps up
Wed May 16, 2012

When he signed with the Roosters at the end of last year, Daniel Mortimer knew the task at hand and he knew his biggest opportunity would come at Origin time.

Cue this weekend.

"The coaches told me they really want me here and that I'm here for a reason and that has given me great confidence and I'm now really enjoying my footy again."

"Coming here has been really refreshing and exactly what I wanted."

"The great thing about the Roosters is you are not at all forgotten in the NSW Cup," he said.

"Smithy and the coaches still go through all your video with you, they watch you play every week and they analyse your performance each week and tell you what to improve on."

This has been evident by Mortimer's performances at the Jets and the exact reason the 22 year-old was an automatic choice to replace Mitch Pearce over the Origin period.

Morts has been a constant threat in the NSW Cup and backed it up with a double last weekend.

"I have worked really hard this year to try and play a bit more instinctively and play what's in front of me," he said

"It's starting to work, a heap of long balls and a few chip and chases are coming off so I'm coming in to the Manly game with some confidence."

Mortimer was a stand out in the opening game of the season and said he is itching to give it another crack.

"I just want to be heavily involved and execute all my plays well," he said.

"I want to be everywhere, I have nothing to lose."

"This Origin period is giving me the chance to put together a few good performances and hopefully force a bench spot because Pearcey and Braith always do a great job."

One thing we can be sure of is regardless of what happens, no one will be putting in more than the young man from Orange.

Mortimer named as Roosters halfback
Tue May 15, 2012
by rleague
Daniel Mortimer has been recalled to first grade for the Roosters clash against Manly at Brookvale Oval this Sunday.

Mortimer has spent most of the season at NSW Cup level playing for Newtown, but earns another chance at NRL level following the selection of Mitchell Pearce for the NSW State of Origin side.

The addition of Mortimer for Pearce is the only change to the Roosters side that went down narrowly to the Warriors 30-26 last Saturday in New Zealand. The Roosters had their chances to win the match only for the individual brilliance of Shaun Johnson to deny them.

Jack Bosden has again been named 18th man.

The Roosters will be looking to build some consistency throughout the Origin period with their squad aside from Pearce largely unaffected by the Origin campaign.

Manly will be without the Stewart brothers, Jamie Buhrer and Tony Williams, however, they welcome back Kieran Foran.

ROOSTERS: 1 Anthony Minichiello, 2 Tautau Moga, 3 Joseph Leilua, 4 Shaun Kenny-Dowall, 5 Sam Perrett, 6 Braith Anasta [c], 7 Daniel Mortimer, 8 Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, 9 Jake Friend, 10 Martin Kennedy, 11 Aidan Guerra, 12 Mitchell Aubusson, 13 Tinirau Arona. Subs: 14 Boyd Cordner, 15 Lama Tasi, 16 Brad Takairangi, 17 Mose Masoe, 18 Jack Bosden (one to be omitted).
