Hannay recalled to Cowboys line-up
Tue May 30, 2006
by Matthew O'Neill
Former Queensland centre Josh Hannay has been recalled to the Cowboys line-up for Sunday's Grand Final re-match against defending Premiers Wests Tigers at Telstra Stadium with Shane Muspratt also called into the side at five-eighth.

Hannay replaces the injured Ashley Graham in the centres following North Queensland's shock 15-14 loss against Canberra last Saturday night in Townsville. Muspratt has been selected at five-eighth with Justin Smith moving into the second-row and Steve Southern dropped to the Queensland Cup.

Aaron Payne will start at hooker with David Faiumu coming off the bench, Maroons team-mates Matthew Scott and Carl Webb swap around with Scott selected in the starting side this week and Jacob Lillyman comes onto the bench replacing the injured Rod Jensen.

New South Wales forward Luke O'Donnell is unavailable due to injury, which he sustained in the very early stages of the opening State of Origin clash in Sydney last week.

It's a big game for several Cowboys players with Matt Bowen holding onto the fullback position by the skin of his teeth with Karmichael Hunt putting pressure on him and also calls for Darren Lockyer to be switched to the position that made him a consistent champion. Matthew Scott and Carl Webb need big matches to make sure their positions for the second match are certain whilst Shane Tronc and Gavin Cooper are chances of being selected for the do or die battle in Brisbane.

The Cowboys sit in 3rd position on 16 points but with the table so tight will be looking for their second victory of the season against the Wests Tigers to secure their place in the top four. Wests Tigers are two points outside the top eight on 12 points and the Premiers are starting to get their compliment of players back. The battle between Scott Prince and Johnathan Thurston will be the highlight with calls for both players to be in the halves for Queensland. Prince was Maroons halfback in 2004 but was over looked last year. Prince's form in the Finals won him selection in the Australian squad ahead of Thurston and was also the Clive Churchill Medal winner last year. Prince has been out of sight, out of mind since signing for the Gold Coast and a big performance against Thurston will give the Queensland selectors something to think about.
