Hull KR and former Melbourne Storm forward Clint Newton was last night found guilty of "behaviour contrary to the true spirit of the game" but avoided suspension where he was fined 300 pounds instead.
Newton was the first player in the Super League to be cited for the now infamous 'chicken wing' tackle that has grabbed the headlines in Australia. The Hull KR forward last year was a member of Melbourne's premiership-winning team and where that kind of tackle along with the grapple tackle is alleged to have originated from.
The RFL found Newton guilty of the offence at the disciplinary hearing last night following Hull KR's 20-18 upset victory over Bradford on Sunday.
Instead of suspending Newton the RFL fined him 300 points, clearing him for Sunday's Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth-round tie at Workington.
It's believed that Super League official Stuart Cummings contacted Australian counterpart Greg McCallum before charging Newton with the offence of "behaviour contrary to the true spirit of the game" as the 'chicken wing' tackle hasn't been used much in England until last Sunday.

Both Newton and Galea traveled to England during the Christmas and New Year period and arrived fit and excited with the challenges that face them within the Super League.
The NRL champions have endured a grueling off-season training regime back home for the last six weeks and are now fully prepared for the hard work that awaits them.
After arriving in the UK on the 28th of December it took the two players only 24hours before they where in the gym with strength and conditioner Billy Mallinson, who remarked;
"It's great to see players that possess such ambition and dedication, they both trained well and have arrived in great shape, these players are true professionals and I am looking forward to working with them.
"Back home pre-season is notorious for being extremely difficult not only from a physical aspect but also mentally, players are really put through their paces and training at Melbourne was just as hard as I had been told, so I had prepared myself for that," Newton commented.
The 26-year-old is looking forward to the beginning of the season and is impressed with how his new colleagues are shaping up for their second season in Super League.
"It'll be good for us when we all train together, and I'm really looking forward to our pre-season camp in Portugal, not only to get to know all the players, but also for warmer weather," Newton added.
