Wests Tigers second-rower Corey Payne will have his grandmother in mind when he straps on a yellow armband on Sunday, May 25.

Payne has joined full-back and captain Brett Hodgson as one of faces for the Call To Arms campaign being run by The Cancer Council of NSW and Wests Tigers.

Call To Arms is a new Cancer Council fundraiser aimed at raising awareness about men's cancers and the impact cancer has on families.

Wests Tigers players will wear yellow armbands against the Gold Coast Titans at Leichhardt Oval in a show of support for Call To Arms.

For more information on Call To Arms or to register your sporting club, visit www.calltoarms.com.au or call 1300 65 65 85.

Wests Tigers sign Corey Payne
Thu November 8, 2007
by Matthew O'Neill
St George Illawarra forward Corey Payne has today signed with the Wests Tigers after recently turning down an approach from English club Castleford.

The 22-year-old Payne played 47 first grade games for the Dragons during 2005-07 including 18 matches this season after coming through the Bulldogs junior ranks with the Chester Hill Hornets Juniors club.

Payne said, "Being able to play under premiership winning coaches in Tim Sheens and Royce Simmons was a real big attraction in coming to the Wests Tigers.

"I also went to Westfields Sports High School with current Wests Tigers players in Liam Fulton, Bryce Gibbs and Dene Halatau, and have spent some time with Robbie Farah at university.

"They are all good blokes and when the opportunity came to join the Wests Tigers, I grabbed it.'

"I want to work hard at Wests Tigers to try and get a starting position.

"I know there will be loyalty shown to the players who are already there but I will be aiming for a starting position, if not in the trials, then for round one.'"

Wests Tigers Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell said, "Corey is a tough, aggressive back-rower who will add plenty of starch to the forward pack."

Castleford coach Terry Matterson spoke to Payne on Saturday about the possibility of joining the Tigers after they won promotion back into the Super League competition. Payne however has decided to stay in Australia with the offer from the Wests Tigers coming virtually at the last minute.
