Peacock takes up coaching reigns
Fri June 13, 2008

Great Britain captain Jamie Peacock is set to take the first steps on the coaching ladder after being appointed to look after some of the brightest young prospects at the Rhinos.

Rhinos Head of Youth Development John Bastian has made the Great Britain captain Jamie Peacock the latest member of the Rhinos squad to join the growing ranks of young coaches in the club's system.

For the 2009 season, Peacock will follow the lead set by his club and country team mate Jamie Jones-Buchanan by coaching the club's Year 11 Foundation Academy team as part of the newly named Gold Development programme. The Foundation Academy is a chance for outstanding youngsters to show their worth and try earn themselves a professional contract with the World Champions and they could have no better role model than Peacock.

Bastian commented, "Jamie has got a wealth of experience as a player but this will give him a chance to gain experience as a coach as well, working at the grassroots of our club which will stand our young players in good stead for the long future hopefully ahead for them. Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Jamie Peacock are both passionate about grassroots rugby in and around Leeds, as has been seen by their coaching at their old amateur club at Stanningley and we want to harness that enthusiasm. They can have a huge impact on the lives of the next generation of players coming through at the Rhinos and in their development as players and people," added Bastian.

However, it is not just the first team players who will be benefiting from this exercise, Bastian believes having two current Great Britain internationals as your coaches can only benefit the young people.

"For the twelve selected players in the Year 11 Foundation Academy side next season this is a very exciting time to be involved at Leeds Rhinos. They will be very fortunate to be coached by two current internationals who are Champions with the club and who have come up through the game from the amateur ranks.

"The Gold Development Programme will give the next generation of junior a high performance introduction to the culture, standard and skills we set for young men who want to play and represent this great club at the highest level. They will be given game specific individual attention to improve and develop in all areas. Young player that have this opportunity have an added incentive of working alongside two Great Britain internationals and that is priceless," added Bastian.

Peacock returns for Rhinos
Thu June 12, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill

Great Britain captain Jamie Peacock has been named in Brian McClennan's 19 man squad for this Saturday's trip to Harlequins and is expected to return to the side.

Peacock missed last Friday's win over Hull FC after getting an infection in a large cut in his forearm. However, the injury has healed sufficiently for Peacock to be considered for the trip to London.

It could be a timely return for the giant front rower who has only scored seven tries in total for Leeds but four of which have come against the Londoners. That includes a try at Headingley Carnegie in the 48-0 win in engage Super League back in March and a crucial score in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Fifth Round tie at the Twickenham Stoop in May.

Second row Simon Worrall returns to the squad whilst Ryan Hall misses out.

The squad in full is:

1. Brent Webb

2. Scott Donald
4. Keith Senior
5. Lee Smith
6. Danny McGuire
7. Rob Burrow
8. Kylie Leuluai
9. Matt Diskin
10. Jamie Peacock
11. Jamie Jones-Buchanan
12. Gareth Ellis
13. Kevin Sinfield
16. Ryan Bailey
17. Nick Scruton
19. Carl Ablett
21. Jordan Tansey
24. Luke Burgess
28. Simon Worrall
35. Eric Anselme
