Hull FC have followed up the capture of England forward Gareth Ellis with the signing of prop or second rower Jay Pitts on a free transfer from Leeds Rhinos.
The 22-year-old, who like Ellis began his professional career at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, has joined the Black and Whites on a two-and-a-half-year deal and could make his debut in the Good Friday derby against Hull KR.
Hull coach Peter Gentle said: "Jay was firmly on our radar for next year but, with our current injury situation, we felt it was a good time to explore his availability at this stage in the season.
"We're grateful to Leeds, who gave us permission to talk to him and having now had chance to share our ideas and vision with him we're really pleased he sees his future with Hull FC and not a number of other clubs."
Hull were without forwards Mark O'Meley, Joe Westerman, Sam Moa and Mike Burnett for last night's clash against Bradford Bulls.
Pitts, who has played in three of the Rhinos' seven Stobart Super League games so far this season, said: "Leeds is a massive club but Hull FC feels just as big if not bigger.
"There is so much potential here and they seem to be heading in the right direction.
"The city is the only place where rugby is bigger than football, the fans are very passionate and it feels like a really great club to be at.
"I've got very high expectations of myself. I want to be playing in finals and playing for my country and I think I can achieve all that here which is why I wanted to come.
"It's all happened very quickly but, when the opportunity came up, I jumped at the chance and hopefully I'll be here until the end of my career."
