Titans trio head west in name of Indigenous education
Mon April 16, 2012

Gold Coast Titans trio Scott Prince, Aidan Sezer and Ryan James today left on a helicopter flight to regional Queensland to help deliver Indigenous education workshops to communities in Dalby and Miles as part of the Titans 4 Tomorrow (T4T) program.

The players will be joined by Titans 4 Tomorrow ambassadors and former players Clinton Toopi and Dean Widders for the two-day trip where they will encourage young Indigenous students to stay in school and focus on receiving an education.

The visit is just one of a series of Titans 4 Tomorrow trips that Titans players have conducted in regional and remote communities throughout Queensland such as Doomadgee, Cherbourg, Mornington Island, Toowoomba and Kingaroy this year, combined with the club's ongoing community work in the Gold Coast region.

Jetstar Titans Captain Scott Prince has become all too familiar with the key educational messages associated with these type of visits through his involvement with the Titans 4 Tomorrow Indigenous programs and his role as a Learn. Earn. Legend ambassador.

"This is the behind the scenes stuff that doesn't seem to be reported on most weeks but we do a lot in the community and this is just a prime example,'' said Prince, before boarding the ABC Helicopter at Gold Coast Airport bound for Dalby this afternoon.

"We're going out to the remote community of Dalby and Miles to share the love and share the message about how important it is to stay at school and to get a very good education.

"I'm very proud and honoured to be a Learn. Earn. Legend ambassador with Preston Campbell and a couple of others.

"I'm looking forward to it - I'll never forget the days when footy players used to come out to Mount Isa, one for example was big Sam Backo who came out to one of the football games out there and shared the love with the kids.

"I look forward to it and hopefully we can touch the heart and souls of a few youngsters.''

James, who is studying a Bachelor of Business and Sports Management at Griffith University as he juggles his career as a professional NRL player, is a prime example of the key message the program aims to deliver.

The 20-year-old said his involvement in the community work associated withthe Indigenous All Stars concept two years ago had opened his eyes to what sort of impact sports people can have on young children.

"We're going out to the schools to reach out to the Indigenous community out there,'' said James.

"The Titans are a very community based club and it's really good what we do for the community. Over the last 11 months I've been doing a lot of it and it's been good to get out there and help the kids.

"After that first year of the Indigenous All Stars it's been good to see what you can do in the community.

"Working with people like Preston Campbell and Scotty Prince, kids just light up when they see them so hopefully one day in the future, I can have the impact that they do with the little kids.''

For Sezer, who has both Indigenous and Turkish heritage, the trip marked his first time on a helicopter in what has been a big week after his successful NRL debut in Saturday night's 26-14 win over Manly.

The Titans squad will continue to train for the remainder of the week right up until Thursday before receiving the weekend off due to the NRL's representative weekend.

Titans players will also attend a NSW School Holiday Coaching Clinic tomorrow at Banora Point State High School.

Champion, Rankin named to return against Bulldogs
Tue March 27, 2012

Gold Coast centre Beau Champion and playmaker Jordan Rankin have been named to make their returns from injury in Sunday's Round 5 clash against the Bulldogs at Skilled Park.

While captain Scott Prince (bicep) and prop Matt White (elbow) will miss the match after suffering injuries in last weekend's loss to the Warriors, Champion (back) and Rankin (foot) were today named to make their returns to an altered 19-man squad for the clash.

The inclusion of Champion adds strike to the backline in what is set to mark his second appearance in Titans colours while Rankin returns after missing last weekend's clash with a minor foot injury and will form a new-look halves combination with NSW State of Origin representative Greg Bird.

Prop Michael Henderson has also been added to an extended six-man interchange bench.

White is expected to miss 4 weeks with torn muscles in his forearm while Prince is expected to miss one match with a minor muscle tear around his elbow.
