Raynor announces retirement

Featherstone winger Gareth Raynor has left the club by mutual consent and retired from professional Rugby League.

Raynor has said that difficulties with motivation, and a desire to give younger players in the squad opportunities to play first team Rugby League are the reasons for his retirement.

Raynor leaves Featherstone on good terms with the club and with mutual expressions of good wishes for the future.

Rovers' head coach Daryl Powell said;

"We wish Gareth well, although there is a sense of disappointment surrounding his departure. We want players at Rovers who have the desire to give their utmost for the team and to go forward with us. If Gareth isn't interested, then he is doing the right thing.

Former Great Britain international Gareth Raynor has joined 2011 Championship winners Featherstone Rovers.

The 33-year-old former Leeds, Hull FC, Crusaders and Bradford winger, who was sacked by the Bulls in September for a breach of club discipline, has signed a 12-month deal with Rovers, the club he supported as a youngster.

Featherstone coach Daryl Powell said, "Gareth has been a proven player, not just at Super League level, but at international level too."
