Source: www.panthers.com.auPenrith captain and Western Sydney ambassador Luke Lewis has helped launch an exciting investment in our local community: the heartland of rugby league.
Lewis joined fellow ambassadors Nathan Hindmarsh (Eels) and Joel Reddy (Wests Tigers), along with NRL Welfare and Education Officer and former Bulldogs skipper Andrew Ryan, in launching a partnership between the NSWRL Western Sydney Community and Game Development Unit, and the nation's leading energy retailer, Origin.
The partnership unveiled at Caddies Creek Public School in Glenwood, will help grow junior participation, establish new clubs, and increase the number of indigenous and multicultural coaches. The kids at Caddies Creek Public are among the thousands across Western Sydney who will benefit from the exciting new union.
New initiatives that will be undertaken in 2012 as a result of investment from Origin include:
Extended roll out of Nathan Hindmarsh's junior development program - Hindy's Primary Challenge - which encourages schools to participate in competitive Rugby League whilst also delivering positive health and well-being messages.
A partnership with Aboriginal Medical Services to engage in a healthy lifestyle program involving physical and healthy lifestyle education to Indigenous children and adults in the community.
A tree planting program in partnership with Greening Australia, Local Government Associations and Junior Rugby League Clubs across Western Sydney.
"Rugby League is such an integral part of the community in Western Sydney and Origin is delighted to assist the Unit to ensure that more children from all backgrounds are able to participate in one of Australia's favourite games," said John Huggart, Energy Markets, Origin.
Origin's sponsorship also includes naming rights of a number of local events and carnivals including the Origin NSW All Schools Knock Out (August 2012) and the Origin Harmony Cup Multicultural tournament (October 2012)."
We are honoured to have a company like Origin join our corporate family," said NSWRL General Manager, Mr Geoff Carr.
"Partnerships like this one will help further strengthen Rugby League's place as the premier sporting code not only in Western Sydney, but in the state of New South Wales."

Source: www.weststigers.com.auWests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall will line up against South Sydney at Allianz Stadium on Sunday, April 1.
Marshall has trained strongly with the side over the last two days despite media reports he would miss the game and that he was suffering from headaches. Both suggestions are false.
The stand-in skipper is looking forward to leading Wests Tigers onto Allianz Stadium for the feature match of the NRL Heritage Round.

"Coming to the Club, I knew I was going to be moved around a little bit and I was happy with that role,'' Reddy said.
"It is a very close knit group we have here. I've really enjoyed my time here so far and there is a real camaraderie within the group and we will show that this week.
Reddy said it was important the team worked together in defence, particularly when Souths full-back Greg Inglis has the ball.
"It is a team effort with Greg Inglis. He is big, strong and he is pretty hard to handle one on one,'' Reddy said.
"We are going to have to have that pack mentality to make sure we don't leave anyone out there trying to tackle him one on one.
"At full-back, he can get around both sides of the field a lot more (than if he was at centre). It means our kicking game has to be really good and our kick chase has to be better than it was last Monday night."
The match against Souths is also Tim Sheens' 650th as a coach after starting his coaching career at Penrith in 1984.
Officials are expecting a crowd of more than 30,000 for the game with both sides contesting the inaugural 'Men of League Cup'.
Wests Tigers players will wear the Western Suburbs heritage strip as part of a massive tribute to the Magpies. The Club will pay tribute to the 1952 Western Suburbs Magpies side that beat South Sydney 22-12 in the Grand Final ? the last time the Magpies won a first grade premiership.
More than 200 former Magpies players will attend the annual Pratten Park Magpies re-union before being introduced to the crowd prior to the NRL kick-off at 3pm.
