Source: www.giantsrl.comLuke Robinson admits it will be a strange experience when they face Hull FC for the second time in a week when they meet in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup on Sunday.
The Giants go into the game fresh from a 22-4 victory over the Black and Whites on Easter Monday and the Giants number nine says it was a much needed victory:
"Obviously it was a bit of a scrappy result and that can often be the case in the second game over Easter because players can often be fatigued. The conditions didn't really help with it being wet and windy adding to the fatigue factor but we ground out the win. It probably wasn't the prettiest of games but we went up against Hull who were second in the table so to get the win was very satisfying."
The two sides went into the Easter period as first and second in the Stobart Super League and Luke believes that showed in terms of the defensive characteristics on Monday afternoon:
"Going into the game Hull had the best defence in Super League while we were second in those standings so it did make for a little bit of a defence orientated game. We started to come together in attack in the second half and scored a few good tries in the end."
Robinson went over for his second try of the season, with his try coming at a pivotal point in the game:
"I suppose it was a crucial score but it wasn't a seventy yard dash by any stretch of the imagination I think it was one metre out and you get the same amount of points no matter what kind of try so I'll definitely take it."
Despite being top of the Super League going into the clubs first involvement of the 2012 Challenge Cup the hooker is not taking things for granted even though the Giants have been so consistent this year:
"Of course things are looking positive with us sat at the top of the league and there will be a lot of ebbs and flows until the end of the season with injuries and form so without doubt there will be a few more twists and turns. To be where we are over a third of the way through the season we are very satisfied and there is an air of confidence around the place that we can actually do something this year. We don't want to be making daft predictions but we are confident within ourselves and hopefully we can kick on from this. We are confident but we are not jumping the gun and getting ahead of ourselves because Browny wouldn't allow that."
The cup brings a different challenge and the Claret and Gold's know if they do not play to their potential they could be knocked out at the first hurdle in West Hull this Sunday:
"Sunday is going to be a tough game with the added pressure of the knockout format and if we slip up this weekend then we know we are out so it is nice to play under that increased pressure. It's also a little bit surreal playing the same team two weeks on the bounce. Whether they have learnt their lessons or we have learnt ours will be seen on Sunday. It's a competition the club and the players all enjoy and think we can give it a good crack at because we are only playing for two trophies and the Challenge Cup starts for us on Sunday."
The Easter fixture will stand both teams in good stead in terms of gaining an understanding of each other's game plan and the former Wigan man says it shouldn't make too much of a difference:
"It could cancel each other out a little bit in terms of what we gained from playing against them on Monday and because it was a close game then it might be even closer at the KC Stadium. They are going to have a better insight into how we play and obviously vice versa so we might nullify each other a little bit more so there might be even less tries."
Huddersfield were successful at the KC Stadium last season when they triumphed 34-20 in the league and Robinson admits it's an arena he loves to play in:
"I do enjoy going to Hull and that's one of the disadvantages of having a nice stadium and great facilities because players enjoy going there and enjoy playing and I particularly like going there because of the Hull fans, they are great but they won't be great for us but they create good atmosphere and get behind their side."
Meanwhile, coach Nathan Brown has selected his squad to take on the Black and Whites of Hull at the KC Stadium this Sunday afternoon, kick off 3pm.
It will be the second time the clubs have met in less than a week, with the Giants taking the spoils on Easter Monday at the Galpharm and Nathan Brown has made some changes to the squad named for that game.
Lee Gilmour, Luke O'Donnell, David Faiumu are named in the squad as well as Shaun Lunt, Dale Ferguson and Luke George, who all missed out on Monday. Keith Mason, Jonny Molloy, Tommy Lee and Aaron Murphy miss out.
