Source: www.melbournestorm.com.auMelbourne Storm front-rower, Dennis Scott, today decided to retire immediately from all forms of football.
Scott, who turns 30 in June, cited on-going battles with injuries as his reason for hanging up the boots mid-season.
"It's extremely disappointing to have to make this decision, one of the toughest I've ever had to make," said Scott.
The rigours of a decade of NRL football with the Broncos, Bulldogs and Storm have taken their toll on Scott and he felt now was the right time to retire.
Scott sustained both knee and shoulder injuries in 2005, as well as a neck injury during the 2006 pre-season.
"Over the course of my ten-year career, I've sustained many injuries and I feel the next stage of my life is more important than the short term reward of having to finish this season," said Scott.
"I've been watching the games over the past few weeks and I am extremely happy with the direction the young front-row brigade is going.
"It's a credit to the coaching staff and the culture of the club to have adopted a youth policy and I feel now is the right time to step aside and allow the development of players such as Brett White, Antonio Kaufusi, Garret Crossman and Ian Donnelly to continue."Scott, signed by the Storm from the Bulldogs before the 2005 season, made 19 appearances for the club and was a member of the six-man leadership group in 2006.
He made a successful return from his pre-season neck injury, playing Queensland Cup for Storm feeder club Brisbane Norths over the past three weeks.
Storm coach Craig Bellamy, although disappointed at losing such an important player, was full of praise for Scott.
