Senior extends contract with Rhinos
Thu February 28, 2008
Source: www.leedsrugby.com

Great Britain international Keith Senior, 31, has agreed a new one year contract with engage Super League Champions Leeds Rhinos.

Senior, who has won 33 caps for Great Britain, was in the final year of his current contract but the new deal will keep him at Headingley Carnegie until at least the end of 2009.

The announcement comes as a massive boost for the Rhinos ahead of the Carnegie World Club Challenge against Melbourne Storm at Elland Road this Friday when Senior will look to add another World crown to his impressive list of honours.

The giant centre has been in impressive form so far this season with three tries in the Rhinos opening four wins, including a double against Catalans Dragons last week with a man of the match winning performance.

Commenting on the announcement Senior said, "It is good to get it sorted out nice and early. Obviously I knew my contract was up at the end of the season and I had to think about whether I wanted to leave Leeds. However, my intentions were always to stay at Leeds and I am delighted we have agreed on a new deal. Leeds are one of the best clubs in world rugby, the organisation ticks all the right boxes in terms of facilities and professionalism and there is still a lot more for the current crop of players to achieve. Brian McClennan has come in and added an extra bounce in the step of the players and these are exciting times to be a Leeds Rhino. I want to finish my career at the top with Leeds. At this stage of my career, you have to take it one year at a time and I will see how I feel this time next year. However, I am feeling great at the moment and enjoying my rugby and that is the most important thing."

Head Coach Brian McClennan added, "This is fantastic news for the club. Keith has huge respect from his fellow players and the coaching staff. He is a key member of our leadership group and is always forthright in his views to improve the club. The form he has already shown this season is the type of form that could take him to the World Cup in Australia at the end of the year. I am really happy Keith has decided to continue to be a Rhino."

Chief Executive Gary Hetherington, who first signed Senior as a junior at Sheffield Eagles, added, "Keith is a remarkable specimen. He is enthusiastic and has a strong mind and body. I have no doubt he can go on and play for many years yet. He has been a tremendous servant to the club and I am pleased he is going to continue to do so."

Keith Senior Testimonial Brochure - On Sale Now
Fri January 26, 2007
Source: www.leedsrugby.com

The specially produced Keith Senior Testimonial Brochure will be available for the first time this Friday for Keith's Testimonial game against Huddersfield Giants at Headingley Carnegie, kick off 8pm.

The 54 page A4 full colour brochure has been produced by the same people who created the Rhinos award winning matchday programme Blue & Amber and it is packed full of interesting articles and reflections on Keith's outstanding career with Sheffield, Leeds and Great Britain.

Amongst those featured in the brochure are former Leeds favourites Barrie McDermott, Francis Cummins and Gary Connolly plus the views of those who have coached Keith during his career; Paul Daley, Gary Hetherington, John Kear and of course Tony Smith.

However, the best part of the brochure is hearing from Keith direct about his career. The Huddersfield born flyer has never been shy to voice his opinion during his 12 year career and he doesn't pull any punches. Keith is brutally honest about the events that have shaped his career and made him the player he is today.

Included in that are stories about how he first broke into the game such as how, as a youngster, he was crushed and lost all confidence in his own ability when rejected by Rugby Union scouts and how he became a HGV Mechanic and trained at night to try and gain a professional contract with Sheffield.

Having signed professionally, Keith talks about his first tour with Great Britain and how nothing could prepare him for what he had to face and then on his move to the Rhinos and how the weight of expectation nearly ended his Leeds career before it had begun. Plus for the first time, Keith reveals how close he came to signing for Wigan having shattered their Challenge Cup dreams at Wembley.

The brochure will be available from sellers around the ground at Friday night's game and thereafter in the Headingley Retail club shop priced £5.

Make sure you get yours with every penny going towards Keith's Testimonial Fund.
