Source: www.superleague.co.ukEngland and Wigan star Sam Tomkins will be joining the new series of Sky Sports rugby league magazine chat show Super League Super Men beginning on Thursday 1 March.
Super League Super Men will this season occupy an extended hour-long slot as Sam joins the team alongside host presenter Brian Carney to front a new feature of the show, Sam's Super Tries.
Sam's Super Tries will see him pick his favourite touch-downs from Super League and talk to the men involved in making and scoring them. Tomkins will begin his series of features by interviewing Leeds Rhino's star Rob Burrow, who scored a spectacular try to cement his team's victory and win the Harry Sunderland Award for Man of the Match by unanimous vote in the Grand Final 2011. Tomkins will also delve into the archives to talk to retired players and rugby league stalwarts such as Keith Senior and Anthony Sullivan.
Tomkins was the top try scorer in Super League last season and is delighted to be joining the team: "It's an exciting venture for me. There's nothing more satisfying than scoring tries, especially in the big games where every point counts. It's a privilege to talk to some of the great names in rugby league, past and present about their outstanding scoring moments."
Brian Carney will also dig deep into the past for this series of Super League Super Men, catching up with former legends of the game such as Lee Crooks, of Hull and Castleford. Brian will reflect upon the longer history of the game by talking to past players whose careers came to an end long before Super League became a firm feature of rugby league.
Carney says: "Without the ground-breaking achievements of men like Alex Murphy, Johnny Whiteley and Billy Boston, Super League wouldn't be what it is today - a competition made vibrant and exciting thanks to the stunning talents of the men who went before. This series I want to acknowledge the contribution of men like them and listen to some fascinating stories from an era gone by."
The Super League Super Men series begins on Thursday 1 March with special guest Danny McGuire, one of the senior members of the Leeds Rhinos squad whose exceptional return to form late in the season saw them lift the Super League trophy in 2011. Their overall victory from 5th place in the table is the most dramatic rise in the history of Super League. McGuire will reflect on a testing couple of years which saw him overcome a devastating injury to return to a squad struggling to make an impact in the competition.
The series will also see Carney catch up with St Helens captain Paul Wellens, former Bradford great and assistant coach at Wigan Paul Deacon, and ex-Warrington and St Helens player Adam Fogerty, who traded the floodlights of rugby league for the spotlights of the stage and became an actor.
The first episode of Super League Super Men is broadcast on Thursday 1 March at 6.30pm on Sky Sports 4.

Former Great Britain centre Keith Senior could re-launch his career with Hull KR.
The 35-year-old ended his 13-year stint with Leeds Rhinos last season but was left in limbo when a proposed move to Crusaders RL collapsed following the Wrexham club's decision to pull out of Super League.
Senior, who is set to become the only player to figure in all 17 seasons of Super League, was offered a pay-as-you-play deal to stay on with the Rhinos but has confirmed he is holding talks with Hull KR coach Craig Sandercock over a possible move to Craven Park.
It is one of three potential offers on the table for the former Sheffield Eagles player should he fully recover from a cruciate knee injury.
"I have talked to Hull KR about a deal but we are at the early stages until we know more about my recovery and fitness," Senior told the Hull Daily Mail.
"My specialist says I should be back fully fit by March next year so I am hopeful that I will only miss the first four rounds of the season.
"I am recovering from a serious injury and I only want to play for a side if I am 100% fit and can give my all. I have done that for 18 years in the game at both Sheffield and Leeds.
"I have spoken to Craig at Hull KR and he has indicated that he would be willing to take a chance on me should I prove my fitness."
