Source: www.crusadersrfl.comCrusaders' Tony Martin is relishing the prospect of going up against his opposite number Michael Shenton at the Racecourse Ground tonight (KO 8PM).
It will be a case of experience vs youth when the two centres clash in Wrexham, with Crusaders looking to build on last week's victory over Salford.
Martin, 32, is one of the Crusaders most experienced players with a glittering 15-year Rugby League career under his belt, which includes scoring the winning try in an NRL Grand Final for Melbourne Storm
Shenton, 24, has enjoyed a rapid rise since making his Super League debut for Castleford Tigers back in 2004. The young centre is now approaching 100 club tries and has made eight appearances for England.
He is now looking to make an impact for his new club after joining Saints for the 2011 Engage Super League season.
And Martin is excited by the prospect of going against Shenton tomorrow night at the Racecourse Ground.
"Preparations for Saints have been going really well," Martin said.
"Things are a lot easier after a win so the boys have got a bit of confidence back and we're all very happy. We're all looking forward to the Saints and it should be a great game.
"I'm looking forward to coming up against Michael Shenton. Michael is a class player, he always has been and playing at Saints is only going to make him a better player. He is playing at a great side with some very experienced players. You always look forward to playing against the best players in the comp and Michael is no exception.
"He has great footwork, a lot of pace and he knows his way to the try line so we will have to keep a close eye on him at the Racecourse Ground. To have achieved what he has in such a short space of time is quite remarkable."
Crusaders earned their second win of the campaign last weekend against Salford City Reds. Super League's only Welsh side put in a gritty display to run out 16-10 victors and Martin says the win has done wonders for the squad's confidence.
Martin added: "The win against Salford was massive. When you start to lose a few games everyone feels a bit deflated and start to doubt themselves. It was important that we won against Salford and it has put a smile on everyone's face this week.
"Things are looking up for us. We got the win and it is nice to have the boys back from Australia. We've also got blokes coming back from injury and we have got a really strong squad coming together now.
"It is always good for every team to have competition for places because it means everyone has to play well every week to get in the side. Hopefully, with that comes extra consistency and we can start stringing some results together.
"We were very happy with how our defence went last week. It is something we've been doing a lot of work on in training to try and improve that aspect of our game. We need to continue to defend well on Friday because St Helens have always been a very attack-minded side so they are going to be very dangerous."
And following a hit and miss start to the campaign, Martin believes the Saints are now starting to hit top gear under new coach Royce Simmons.
Martin said: "Saints have hit form in the last few weeks. They are always the same, they tend to start a bit slowly but then they hit the ground running. In recent weeks they've played really well and Royce Simmons is a quality coach. They've got great players all over the park and if we are not on our game, they could get a bit of a cricket score going.
"We have to concentrate for the full 80 minutes and defend like we did last week. If we do that then the result will take care of itself."
Tickets for the Friday's game against St Helens (KO 8PM) are available from the Mold Road club shop, by calling the ticket office on 0871 221 9511 or online at www.crusadersrfl.com

Source: www.superleague.co.ukMichael Shenton claimed a superb hat-trick as Castleford Tigers edged a hard-fought encounter to condemn rivals Bradford Bulls to their sixth successive defeat.
The England centre, 23, touched down in the first half and then added a superb late double to hand the Tigers their third successive win at a baking Jungle.
Despite the sweltering conditions, the early pace was unrelenting and Bradford quickly pinned the hosts back towards their own line.
Their early pressure paid off in the seventh minute when Elliott Whitehead collected a pass from Paul Sykes and showed neat footwork to cross the line.
Sykes converted with ease but the response from the Tigers was impressive and emphatic.
They hit back four minutes later when Shenton collected an exquisite long pass from Dean Widders to touch down in the right corner to cap a fine array of inter-passing.
Joe Westerman's attempted conversion was woefully off target but Castleford continued to build momentum and forged ahead with their second try in the 17th minute.
Rangi Chase, a pivotal figure at stand-off, showed some clever footwork to reach the Bradford line and, although the ball was ripped from his grasp by two visiting defenders, the try was awarded by referee Ben Thaler.
Westerman was again off cue with the conversion and, after Castleford failed to make their dominance pay, Bradford hit back to claim their second try in the 28th minute.
Centre Chris Nero collected possession inside the left channel and showed intelligence to find the onrushing Steve Menzies in support to his left.
The former Manly forward, 36, needed no second invitation to scamper over the line from 10 metres out but Sykes failed to add the extras.
Three minutes before the break, Castleford lost former Bulls forward Brett Ferres to the sin-bin following a challenge which a sparked a flare-up involving several players from both sides.
Westerman's misery with the boot continued on the stroke of half-time when he sent wide a penalty that could have drawn his side level.
A penalty from Kirk Dixon drew Castleford level in the 46th minute but Sykes kicked a routine penalty for the Bulls to restore his side's lead five minutes later.
Another two-pointer from Dixon then put the Tigers level at 12-12 but Bradford forged ahead with a superb score on the hour mark when Menzies showed some brilliant footwork and ushered Brett Kearney over the line.
Sykes converted but Castleford were level within minutes as Dixon touched down from a high kick from Mitchell Sargent and then added the extras.
The points looked set to be shared but Shenton had other ideas and burst clear to run around Kearney and touch down in the 71st minute.
Three minutes later he completed his treble when he collected a high kick from Chase and touched down for a try which Westerman converted for his only goal of the game.
Michael Platt broke away to hand Bradford late hope but Sykes missed the touchline conversion from the right flank and Castleford held on for victory.
