Sinfield set to Leeds second highest scorer in 113 year history
Wed June 4, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill
Source: www.leedsrugby.com

Leeds Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield is set to become the second highest points scorer in the club's 113 year history after reaching yet another milestone in his incredible career.

Sinfield, who is the most successful captain in the club's history and the only man to captain Leeds to two Championship wins, equalled Joe Thompson's 1,883 points with a last minute drop goal to seal a 23-16 win over Wigan in the Carnegie Challenge Cup last Saturday.

The Leeds skipper, who is currently enjoying a testimonial season with the club, became the first Leeds player to play and score in every game in a season last year and recently set a new Super League record doing the same in 49 consecutive games. Sinfield's overall scoring run in Cup, League and play-offs stands at 60 matches, which is a Leeds club record. His run began with three goals in a 14-18 engage Super League home defeat by St. Helens on 2 July 2006. The run has brought him 548 points from eight tries and 261 goals, including six drop goals.

Prop Thompson joined Leeds from Cross Keys in 1922 and became one of the club's first real superstars in a career that lasted eleven glorious seasons. The leading point scorer of all time for Leeds is Lewis Jones who racked up a remarkable 2,920 in 12 seasons, some 1,037 ahead of Sinfield.

Commenting on the milestone Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said, "This is yet another remarkable milestone for a player who is still so young. We have had some wonderful players play for Leeds over the past 113 years and Kevin is certainly amongst the finest to have pulled on the Blue & Amber."

Head Coach Brian McClennan added, "Kevin is a tremendous leader for our club and someone that everyone holds in the very highest regard. His achievements on the field are only matched by his hard work and commitment to the club and the game off the field. I am sure he will go on to set many more records in the years ahead and we are all looking forward to helping him do that."

Aussies lead the way after 11 Super League Rounds
Mon April 14, 2008
by Matthew O'Neill
Wigan outside back Pat Richards and Leeds flyer Scott Donald continue Australia's dominance in the English Super League competition leading the way as top Point and Try Scorers after 11 rounds.

Richards holds a three point lead ahead of Catalans sharp shooter Thomas Bosc as both players passed the century of points over the weekend. Bosc went into Catalans upset victory against Richards side Wigan with a three point lead, but Richards netted 16 points whereas Bosc neeted 10 points - but importantly for Bosc he was on the winning side.

Donald and Hicks came into the Leeds v Warrington clash equal on 10 tries with Donald winning the battle crossing twice to Hicks just once as the Rhinos won 32-12 in an impressive victory.

Kevin Sinfield leads the goal kicking charts with 43 landing six goals for Leeds against Warrington whereas Paul Deacon who has 42 goals didn't play last weekend and Bosc landed five goals to be one behind Sinfield.

Only nine players have landed a drop goal this season with no players potting over a second one pointer. Warrington's Lee Briers still hasn't registered a drop goal, although he has missed three games so far this season. Briers is the modern day specialist of searching for the extra point, but the opportunities this year haven't come for him.
