Source: www.sharks.com.auManly utility back Paul Stephenson has agreed to terms and will join the Sharks next season on a two-year deal.
The 22-year-old Stephenson, originally from Taree on the NSW North Coast, can play centre, wing or fullback and is certain to push for a regular NRL berth at the Sharks in 2007.
Sharks CEO Greg Pierce, while acknowledging Stephenson was not one of the high profile members of the Sea Eagles backline, explains he is nonetheless an extremely talented player and is well respected at the Manly club.
"Paul is rated highly by Manly but with the backs they have at the club have decided to release him to pursue this opportunity," Pierce said.
"He's been a good player for them over the past couple of seasons and will be a valuable addition to our squad."Stephenson, who stands 189cm and weighs in at around 100kg's, has played 41 NRL games for Manly since making his debut in 2004. He was pleased to have signed on with the Sharks, with his versatility certain to be an asset at his new club.
"I'm very excited to be coming to the Sharks and we are very much looking forward to moving to the area," Stephenson said.
"While I came into grade football as a centre, I've played a bit of fullback and wing, but I'm just happy to play first grade football and fit in wherever it is the Sharks might need me."The announcement regarding Stephenson joining the Sharks adds to the depth of their backline, with his signing coming hot on the heels of the news that Josh Hannay from the North Queensland Cowboys has agreed to play with the Cronulla club for the next two years.
Also coming to the Sharks for the 2007 season are Penrith front rower Craig Stapleton, Bronco Fraser Anderson, former New Zealand Warrior Misi Taulapapa and Souths forward Michael Greenfield.
