Sykes joins Wakefield on loan

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have added more quality to their squad for 2012 with Paul Sykes joining on loan from Bradford Bulls.

The former England and Great Britain representative will spend the rest of the Stobart Super League XVII campaign at the Wildcats with no recall option as part of the loan deal.

30-year old Sykes will provide Wakefield Head Coach Richard Agar with experience across a number of positions and will be available for selection from this weekend.

The two clubs have been in conversation for a number of weeks about the deal which was completed earlier this week, with Sykes eager to compete for a spot in the Wildcats line-up.

"I'm looking forward to it," said Sykes.

"I've been limited at Bradford and not been able to get many games so hopefully I can get a few games at Wakefield and help them climb the ladder.

"I was a little bit limited last year too and I've only played twice this season so I just want to get playing and enjoying it again.

"There's a lot of new players here but they seem to be starting to gel together and have had a couple of good wins. Hopefully I can help add to that."

"Paul's not featured as much as he would have liked at Bradford and for us we think it's an opportunity to bring in a player that will be a value to the squad," Agar commented.

"He's a front line goal kicker and fills a number of positions, in positions that we've not got enormous depth in at the moment so we think he'll be a really good addition the squad."

Sykes began his professional career at the Bulls in 1999 and his debut came against the Wildcats.

A loan spell in the capital with London Broncos eventually became a permanent deal with Sykes racking up over 130 appearances before returning to the Bulls in 2008 where he has since gone on to play more than 100 games.

Sykes will also be available for the Wildcats Carnegie Challenge Cup campaign which sees them take on Leeds Rhinos in the fourth round.

Stand Off Paul Sykes returns to the Bulls Squad to face Catalans Dragons but there is again no place for Full Back Brett Kearney who misses the game with an ankle injury.

Sykes, who has missed the last two games through suspension, replaces Kearney in the only change to the nineteen named for the game against Hull KR last week.

The 19 - man squad is:

Addy, Halley, L'Estrange, Hall, Lynch, Sheriffe, Crossley, Finigan, Kopczak, Olbison, Menzies, Reardon, Godwin, Nero, Sykes, Whitehead, Worrincy, Langley, Platt.
