MOST of you would have looked only briefly at the story this week about Arana Taumata being charged with stealing a doctor's pad and forging a prescription for painkillers.
We already knew about the alleged incident and Taumata has a terrible disciplinary record anyway.
But have you noticed that these type of stories are getting more common?
In 2008, while at Gold Coast, Daniel Conn escaped with a tongue lashing from a magistrate for a similar offence.
Last year, Sydney Rooster Jake Friend was charged with illegally possessing valium.
If these are the fellows getting caught, how many aren't? I have had people suggest to me that some players are now almost like battery hens, with legal drugs being used to maximise their performance.
Uppers to play, downers to sleep, then do it all over again ... that may be a massive exaggeration but I will be very surprised if this doesn't turn into the next really big issue in the NRL.
----------
ONE would imagine the Sydney Roosters are only going through legal procedure by handing Todd Carney, Nate Myles and Frank-Paul Nuuausala breach notices today.
How many breach notices must Carney have now? If cut loose, he won't find as many clubs willing to pick him up as he did last time.
And he's already been denied a UK visa.
----------
I DON'T know how many - if any - players read this column but if you know any players with American family, here's some advice.
Matthew Elliott is looking for anyone who has played at a reasonable level to be part of the United States World Cup qualifier squad later this year.
Even if it's country football, Q Cup or A-Grade - get in contact with David Niu through the AMNRL website.
Public service announcement over.
----------
AS always, thanks for the comments last week.
Wollongong deserves the opportunity to host a home final because it is Australia's ninth largest city and a rugby league hotbed! Is the NRL travelling so well it can turn its back on the 300,000 people that live there?
The NRL takes Wollongong for granted far more than the Dragons do.
Paul, thanks for your post. Those of us who watch NRL occasionally on dodgy internet feeds are aware of the exposure it's getting in Canada! The World Cup qualifiers are now in New Jersey not Philly, I understand - and I'll be there.
Joshua, the Dragons are permanently based in Wollongong, the coach lives there ... and I was only talking about week one at a stadium that will hold close to 25,000. I don't think that's unrealistic.
Corey, you're a man after my own heart. Agree with everything you said.
Leroy, do you think Wales will be less competitive in the Four Nations than they would otherwise had been if Crusaders had survived?
